We should get drawn for unit 40 in colorado this year. Unit 40 is checker boarded with private land. We plan to hunt either the 12 sq mile Grand mesa national forest or the southern BLM property. If we had a downloadable map to show us the BLM boundaries that would be fantastic. How would we go about getting this software?

My Magellan500 has Topo USA and it is almost copy of USGS maps and Nat. Geo I've seen. I carry it now that I have it working and mark POI's as I go. It alsogoes to sleep mode to save batt. But if you are looking at property bounderies there is nothing like a good BLM map and a USGS Topo maps.They show the private land bounderies,and if your hunting and have any questions concerning lines of property as oppossed to public,then clear it up before hand.I've had a few friends in CO. watched like hawks by DOW staff to catch them messing up on the private lands they had tags for. As truck loads of bulls come out of Nat. For. untagged," oh them ,they're locals."

Certain GPS units have the capability to overlay maps or you may need to create the overlay and then upload yourself.

I plan on researching and purchasing one of these units but don't have any direct experience with it.

I don't know of a commercially available overlays for CO but there are a few guys out there that are selling overlays.

Does anyone know how to use a GPS to locate property line boundaries, when you have survey stakes at the 4 corners of a property, but ravenes and hills that prevent line-of-sight marking?

In other words, if I visit each of the four survey stakes at the four corners of my property, and want to talk the line between two stakes with my GPS, is there a technique to know when I'm 'close' to the boundary line, using my GPS?

I'm going to make the same mistake you are and ASSUME that you actually have no idea about what tags a DOW employee has. Your friends shouldn't be tresspassing and hunting on private lands without permission. If they weren't than awesome... but why would you attack the people that keep poachers at bay. If they were than hopefully they got caught. Only guilty consciences would attack game wardens.

How can you say that there are truckloads of bulls being taken out of the woods illegally unless you and your group has taken part in the act. And you seriously think that DWM's are looking at license plates and saying "oh hey... this colorado guy has got a bull with no visible tag draped across his hood but let's pull over this law abiding California boy?"

I will not make the mistake of assuming that there are no corrupt game wardens but it seems like you think that every DWM is a mobster. If you don't like the way the Colorado Division of Wildlife conducts it's business... please don't show up next year. The majority of our funding does come from nonresident over the counter bull tags but we won't feel your absense.
