Elk Island in Alberta Canada and Land between the Lakes in KY does not meet the required regulations for importing into TN. The last time that I checked, neither facility could account for every elk and deer, neither facility had all elk and deer double tagged, neither facility had and annual compete inventory of all of the deer and elk within their facility and neither facility had a whole herd TB test of all deer and elk. Some of the deer and elk at these two facilities are not found in time for a CWD test so to make a long story short, neither facility meets the requirements for importing into TN.

Well it looks like TWRA will have to find another source for elk or just make do with the elk that they already have.

More details later.

TWRA is still trying to import elk without meeting the state import requirements in regard to health issues. Even with the experts advising them not to import elk from herds that have not been properly tested or monitored, TWRA is determined to ignore the health risk to the states wildlife and livestock. This is just another example of TWRA's abuse of power.

The area that TWRA wants to import elk from is also an area that an individual would be ticketed for bringing a head or carcass back to TN. As you can see, this makes no sense at all and is just another example of TWRA's abuse of power.

Well TWRA does it again, Rules and Regulations mean nothing to TWRA when they want to do something.

Ken,

I am very disappointed this morning after reading an article in the Chattanooga newspaper that stated you had signed a wavier to allow TWRA to import elk from Elk Island in Alberta Canada, a herd that clearly does not meet your own department's rules and regulations for importation into TN due to disease issues.
http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_98271.asp

The MOU between TWRA and TDA that was signed in 2000 by Commissioner Dan Wheeler and Gary Meyers states in 1. a. "Any future importation of elk will meet or exceed the procedures of this MOU and rules promulgated by TDA and evaluated on an annual basis." That statement in the MOU allowed you to say no to this current TWRA elk importation request since the elk herd of TWRA's choice, Elk Island, did not meet TDA's import rules and regulations regarding disease issues.

With what is known now as compared to what was known in 2000 about CWD, you clearly should have stood strong on this issue and not allowed TWRA to do as they please. This wavier tells the TN livestock producers that there are two sets of rules, one for us farmers and a less restrictive set of rules for TWRA. This wavier will make it harder for your department to enforce rules and regulations on farmers since you don't enforce them on TWRA.

In my opinion, you have unnecessarily put the livestock producers in TN and the state's wildlife at risk for disease by not enforcing your own rules and regulations.

It tells me that PSYCHO is a xxx xxxx that don't know what he is talking about!

Here are some facts for you.

Autry has whitetail deer and has had since back in the 80's.
TWRA has been trying to put Autry out of business since back in the 80's.
Autry sued TWRA in 1991 and has won over and over many times and the case was appealed all the way to the six circuit court of appeals in Cincinnati Ohio, the case took 15 or 16 years.
Autry has never been found guilty and has never been fined.
Autry still has deer.
