steam from breath

On cold days how do you guys deal with the deer not seeing your breath. I have never really thought about it until today when I picked a doe out of the bush because I could see her breathing. If I can see her breath, then the deer can see mine. I usually hunt natural cover so I am not enclosed in a blind and any movement can give you up, even your breath.

On some movie that came out a few years ago about snipers (can't remember the name) they put snow in their mouths. It worked in the movies, it may be worth a shot.

There is a product out that has a copper pad inside the mask, sort of like a brillo pad. What it does is it stays warm, and it warms your incoming breaths. Not only does it keep the steam down, but it also keeps your core temperature up a little more than without it. Not much, but it helps.

Sorry, I forget what it is called, but you can find it in the Cabela's catalogue. I bought one, it's pretty good, on a scale of 1-10, I would give it about a 6, but thats only because I don't really like it sliding down my face, it has a strap that is supposed to hold it up, but it's not that great. Otherwise it works well for it's purpose.

Cob, I'll try that but for now I have no snow just 6" of rain in the last two days.

Chuck, I'll be looking for that gadget and will see if it works. The theory is sound anyway.

For the low-tech solution, I just have a coat that when fully zipped up, goes to about mid face. Exhalation hits the "muffler" part of the coat and goes down if you rotate your head down.

Leave the top button of your outerwear undone and breathe down into it - or wear a very loose scarf like a bowhunter face mask.

The movie is "Enemy at the Gates"...but I think that by moving to replace the snow every minute or two you lose more than you gain.

Suppose it did work though...who'd eat yellow snow to bag a buck? - LOL
