State of Idaho Wolf Tags......

As the debate over allowing a hunt or not continues, I would like to express my views on a related matter. I was excited to get my 2009 Idaho Wolf tag this year maybe not only to take a wolf, but to have one of the first year tags, then started thinking... the tag is not expensive , but there are only 220 wolves statewide to be taken. Seems like alot of money for the state. I am all for supporting Fish & Game dept. but why not do a lottery or another way.
Someone is making out on this. I will not be purchasing a 2009 Idaho Wolf Tag.

I for one am more than glad to see wolf tags being issued.

As far as the dollars being generated I can all but guarantee those dollars are going back into your wildlife. Yes there is a lot of money being made but it's not going to some fat cat sitting on a beach in the Carribean sipping margarita's. It's going back into your wildlife.

hopefully they're using that money to battle the groups that forced the wolves on your state to be able to manage the wolves so there is a balance of wildlife and not just wolves and very few elk, deer, moose............

The success rate will be extremely low for these hunts, if they did a draw the quota would not be met. Even with unlimited tags, there will not be 220 wolves killed by hunters this year. It is estimated that the wolf program is going to cost Fish and Game around $1.5 Million to manage these things. Even with the tags estimated to be sold, they will not raise enough to cover the costs associated with managing these things. The tags should be around $20.

I might sound ignorant here, but if it costs 1.5 million to manage these destructive animals....I say kill them all and save our money... Stop trying to bring them back.
I do not have a problem giving my money to Fish & Game, as I know it helps to keep what I love and enjoy doing.
Just wondered what others thought about this issue.
I also know that if the 220 wolves are not taken legally, they are still being taken out by farmers and others that practice the Idaho 3 S's.
I also like the one reply to an article I was reading that said maybe we should relocate the wolves to the suburban areas and communities where these wolf lovers live......see if they can manage that !

It sounds like you may not know the complete history on this issue. Just in case let me summarize....from here on out when I say "we" I am saying "hunting community as a whole".

We had little to no input or choice in the re-introduction of the wolf. The wolf was shoved down our throats and we were told we couldn't hunt them, cull them, or manage them in any way because they were on the endangered list. The wolf lovers won that battle.

The western states have been fighting like crazy to get the wolf de-listed so that we could at the very least manage them. In has been in court many, many times. The wolf lovers are fighting tooth and nail to keep us from hunting them at all and many feel this is a move on their part to begin the process of eliminating hunting altogether. If wolves manage game levels then why do we need hunters? That's their logic anyway.

The federal government (and judges in court) finally agreed to let states manage them (hunt them) and de-list them with the stipulation that each states management plan was a plan that ensured that the wolf will sustain healthy population levels.

In other words the ONLY way we can LEGALLY hunt them is if they are managed in a way that they are not irradicated again. We will lose the LEGAL ability to hunt them if the population levels get too low. Yes a lot of people practice the 3 S's but as we've seen that's had very little effect. The hunts may have little effect as well but they should be more effective than the 3 S's because we can do it in "broad day light" so to speak and hunters will be targeting them and chasing them rather than just taking one when the happen to run across one.

I am all for re-locating them to Central Park and Times Square.

we here in Or. have seen first hand, what these "Top Predators" are capable of. many citizens living in mountainous area's are finding more and more sign as time goes on. and not just in the Blue mts. We are talking the "Cascades" here. Some residents outside of Cascadia,Or. have been tracking a pack of (as they say 15 or more) wolves for over a month. they have had pets disapear. heard countless nights of howling and even had a pack surround their camp while camping out above the house. these wolves are here to stay, and there numbers are growing leaps and bounds. some estimates are at 30% or more each year.
