starved hunting dogs

ok, i have a question about something that has been bothering me, and i want to know from people who hunt. before i go into this i want to say i am NOT against hunting or a peta freak by any means. i work at a state park and people call in all the time about starved hunting dogs. the park ranger says it's ok the owners starve them so they hunt better, and they will find their way back home. i just think this is wrong!! to starve them at all is wrong, isn't it? i googled everywhere to find out about starving hunting dogs and couldn't find anything! and i have even hunted, and my family does but have never heard of this. is this a normal practice and is it ok? i just want to know so i don't worry about it anymore. anyways, i thought i'd ask people that would know best.

well, thanks for letting me post here, but i found out what i needed to know. a guy that works with me says that they are little b/c they run so much, and the people that call about lost dogs always think they are malnourished b/c they probably just ran 20 miles hunting and they will look that way. so i can quit wondering about it. can't believe noone here even has a comment about whether they think it is wrong or not! but, whatever.

I hunt with dogs for hogs alot and have never heard of starving a dog. Ours are well feed and maybe some on the fat side. We activily hunt them and they are in great shape. We use tracking collars to help locate them. Do not know where you are from, but nothing like that happens around my area. I know of at least 20 different guys that hunt with dogs and they all feed a good ration and there dogs are in great shape.....

starved hunting dogs

Unfortunately i see this a lot here in southeast GA and it bothers the hell out of me, i grew up dog hunting and always had a few dogs but i got out of the dog business when i went into the military and could not transfer a pack of hounds every time uncle sam sent me some place new, allot of people here use dogs and i must say that i have seen allot of dogs that are not well maintained and kept in small pens or chained to a tree their entire life, and it seems to be getting worse as time goes on, back in my day people took allot of pride in their hounds and where proud to show them off , i live out in the country and i am surrounded by prime hunting land that is leased every year by hunt clubs and every year i have half starved mange infested poor looking hounds wandering into the yard so me and the wife always feed them water them and try to treat their problems before we call the number on their collar and when the owner arrives i usually raise a little hell with him but i don't know if it does any good i have contacted a few owners and had them tell me they didn't want the dog and just keep it or give it away, sorry if i sound like the president of PETA or something but it really ticks me off when sorry , lazy people make all of us look bad we have enough battles to fight just being sportsman now a days
