I killed a spike last week

I killed a spike last week during my gun hunt. I've been trying to post it up but the site has had a few hiccups.

I was in the stand for about a half hour when I heard a deer coming up from behind me. The spike came within 20yards. I gave it a grunt to stop him in his tracks then dropped him with my grandads old model 94 30-30. Perfect shot DRT...

My first north Carolina buck with a modern rifle and second deer of the season. This was one of the deer that my brother missed during black powder season.

We have a hunt coming up on

We have a hunt coming up on at the end of the week and the temp is supposed to drop into the 30's. After this mess with the rain from hurricane sandy for the past 3 days I think the deer should really be moving. Hoping to get a shot at a better buck this week. I'm holding out for a better deer for the rest of the season or I might try to video a hunt with my brother and try to get him his first deer of the season.

That old '94 looks like a good one. Judging from your approx. age - and the fact that it was your grandfather's - it's been around a good while! The "thutty-thutty" will still do the job on deer at moderate ranges. Thanks for the post.

thanks guys it's a 1964... I had a screw fall out on it last week and looked up the serial number to order a new one. My grandmother bought it new for my grandad  for $99. He passed away in april and I ended up with it. It's a little rough and has seen lots of time in the woods. It sure is a great shooter though.

Very nice Alpine!

I very much enjoyed your updates. I haven't been on in a while but was very happy to see you put a few NC bucks on the ground. Congrats! Kevin
