Don't have any first-hand experience, but they have a very good reputation.

I have a Springfield 1911A in 45ACP. Great gun, no complaints. The classic 1911 you can't kill the things no matter how hard you try.

The XD's are well designed and reliable guns. Last year Handguns had a review involving a torture test similar to that used by Glock. The review model passed without issue.

That being said, I personally like the MP just from a fit and feel perspective; furthermore the MP offers a mag lockout (mag dropping locks out gun). The XD doesn't have a mag lockout.

I have a Springfield XD 9mm I would have to say that it is a real fine weapon for why I bought it I got it to use while taking course for law enforcement act 235 had to qualify with my XD it work great it truely is a point and shoot weapon so I would recommend a springfield to anyone that ask I am also looking at getting the Xd new 45acp I like the feel of it compared to S&W but that is my opinion .

I have a Springfield XD-40 and I like the heck out of it. I'm a Probation/Parole Officer and have and carry a state issued Glock 22 in .40 cal. I like the Glock too, but If I had the choice I'd carry my XD. It just seems to fit my hand perfectly, has just the right sensitivity in terms of trigger pull. I for one, would highly recommend it.

I went ahead and got the SW MP40 .40. I really like it. I don't think I would have went wrong with the XD, but I do like the MP 40. Smooth and accurate to shoot.

They are great guns from what I've heard. They are made in Croatia. I like that grip safety that they have on it. My personal opinion is that .40 S&W in a polymer framed pistol gives a whole lot of muzzle flip and more felt recoil, more than a 230gr .45 ACP does in a full sized all steel 1911. As far as accuracy goes. I've never been real impressed with the .40 S&W accuracy in the 40's I've fired when compared to 9x19mm and .45 ACP. BUT the .40 S&W is plenty accurate to defeat an adversary at 7yrds or 21ft, which is the realistic distance that the vast majority of defensive shootings take place where there are actually any hits on the enemy. AND, no auto loading semi-auto pistol is really intended for long distance accuracy anyway. I always liked full power/full velocity 155 grain or 165 grain JHP in the .40.
