Hello I am new to this site I am planing a diy bear hunt in Montana I have read mixed things about when the best time to hunt bear spring or fall with the best % of sucess. Has any body done a spott & stalk in Montana or any other western state thanks for any help you can give me !!!

Wecome INBOWMAN ! I haven't got to spot and stock bears in the spring, but I have hunted them a lot in the fall (spot and stalk). It depends on the amount of food in the fall if they are moving around a lot, if there is less food they have to move a lot more and they are easier to spot.
Stalking them is a great challenge, I feel they are one of the toughest critters to sneak up on. They have excellent hearing and a super nose, and despite what people say I think they see better than most people think. I feel getting up on them with a bow is as tough or tougher than getting up on a smart old muley ! Especially one of those big old bears !
Spring time might be the best to spot and stock simply becuase they are out there trying to gain back some wieght and really trying to put on the food bag. We are not lucky enough here in Colorado to chase bears in the spring anymore (thanks to the Eastern Slope voting it out)
