Spike Fork Bull First Day!

At 7:45 pm the day before spiked forks opened, I ran to Canadian Tire and bought a tag. Next day, I went to "the spot" I had been scoping since summer.
As my girlfriend and I walked through the hidden path to what was soon to be the glorious path, we heard moose calls. At first I thought, ahh...it's two guys in the bush using calls. The closer we got, it sounded real. So sneaky sneaky we went about 200 yards hearts pounding. Then it happened. A cow moose walked across the path about 50 yards in front of us. Holy SH*T!! So close! Then a crunching from the left and this spike fork comes out 10 yards behind her. We stayed frozen and didnt even breath! He came out a bit more and I slowly looked through my range finder to make sure he was what I hoped he was. Yep, ok, one spike, two spike on one side, one, and a nubby on the other!
EGADS!! pocketed the range finder and slowly brought up my rifle....
He just sat there looking at us, knowing something was there but didnt know what. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the cow was still within 50 yards of us so maybe he was weighing his options...nice cow mama, or run from what could be nothing.
He turned to look towards the cow and my crosshairs were in perfect line with his upper neck. Steady....
BOOM!
I lowered my rifle and looked. Oh no, I thought he took off! I missed at 50 yards! What gives! No, my girlfriend said all excitedly, you hit him,he just dropped like a ton of bricks. Sure enough, laying in 3 feet of grass was my first ever kill in my first year of hunting. How cool is that!
I used a savage 300 win mag. Got just under 400 hundred pounds of meat.
My friends who hunt said it was super rare for this whole thing to play out, so I wanted to share it with you guys and gals.
I have one more day to fill my deer tags. Maybe I can share a story about the last day miracle shoot.

No, pictures, unfortunately. As I gain more experience hunting I will remember what to bring, and of course what not to.
