Snow - I hate it

I'm glad the snow is off the roof at my folks - really I am.

It all came off at once, filling the road to the barn with a 3 foot high six foot wide DUMP of hard packed snow. The trouble was that my dad (with his oxygen tank) was AT the barn with his truck. Snow too hard packed and too heavy to plow even with the truck somy son (13) and I shovelled all of it. 2 days ago. Anotehr 8 inches fell yesterday. Then all of THAT slid off the roof and filled the roadway 2 feet deep AGAIN! ......................

But better off than on - a local farm had a barn roof come in and kill 50 cows. Another in VT killed 12 calves. I have not heard of any house roofs being lost but 2 feet of snow and then rain soaking into it is bad. i've spent the wekened clearing roofs. Its good to be back to work to rest up!

Yeah, my parents up in Vermont got 3 feet in just 2 storms last week. Said the drifts and banks are over his head.

He sent me some photos that were supposedly from South Dakota today. I'll see if I can post them.

Yeah, You guys in the mid

Yeah, You guys in the mid west and back east have been hammered this year. The weather people out here were saying we were going to have a cold and snowy winter. Boy were they ever wrong. We have had a couple cold weeks but very little snow. The temps for the past 5 or so weeks have been in the upper 50's and low 60's and very little rain. I'm sure we will have one more hoorah before winter is over but so far its been very mild and dry by Oregon standards. Good luck with all the snow removal and dig out.

Smow hasn't been bad here at all this year. 6" this week but only a couple more than that in the last month.

But worse for me at least is the cold. We had 18 below when I left work this morning at six.

My mom is in upper Michigan and she said it has been a real nice winter where she lives.

if they plowed so I could get off the road to hunt I wouldnt care, but MA, NY, VT ignore the state land access areas, and if you plow it yourself they fine you.

waste of hunting time.

Some spots I shoveled out a space for my truck through the snowbanks, other places, you just can't. See second photo.

Snomobiles will pack the trails and town roads so hard that even in turkey season we won't be able to get into the GMNF....no idea why I let my wife talk me into spending the winters back in Vermont...

are in excellent condition. Watch for low hanging

branches and debris on the trail.

Trail BN 4 to BN 10 is now open. Ride with caution

as Moose are walking all trails because of the

DEEP SNOW.

RIDE SAFE, AND THINK SNOW!! IT WORKS!"

that looks like home. I bought an ATV and plow but the banks are so high that I can't get any snow over them!

where's home mike? years ago back in my home they used to sell attachments for your car antennas so you could be seen at intersections, they don't have snow like that anymore there or in Vermont, this is a real old winter.

I remember back in the day in Vermont I could step off my porch, right into the snow. Or, on New Years Eve, as kids we'd build our own bobsled run off the front porch.

Fun times, for sure. Hopefully the deer herd doesn't get hit too bad. I am planning my fall hunt up there right now..

It's just non-stop shovelling this year. As of this morning Albany NY has had 67 inches of snow this season. They are way south of me and I think every storm we EASILY get twice the snow that they report. Honestly I think we have seen 8 feet of snow so far this wnter and we are only halfway through. It is not all still on the ground, but unplowed level ground has snow over my knees and the snow banks along the side of the road are eye level when you drive (+/- hood height). Between my place, my parents, and inlaws it is non-stop shovelling. Spent another hour at it last night. Still not done, and more snow predicted over the next few days. Why on earth do I live HERE??? lol

Snow

I do love living in CNY and hearing people complain about snow!!!!

I grew up on Tug Hill and let me tell you that was a lot of snow, I remember the blizzard of 77 seeing it snow 2 ft an hr, you could not breath when you went outside, if you did not have a snowmobile you did not go to town for 2 weeks. So I moved south and now live outside of Syracuse. But lets do the math every year in central and Northern NY it will snow in November, Dec, Jan, Feb,March and always a storm or two in April. This is a given that we will have snow at least 6 months out of the year. Now it could start snowing in Sept and last year we got a big snow in May this could push us up to 9 months with snow in them.

I like winter big reason why I still live here, got a sister that dosent like the cold. She moved to AZ. right out of highschool and only comes back in the summer. Me I dont like summer, heat, bugs, mowing the figging lawn every week. People at work start complaining in Feb that the winter is too long and I always say " wish it would last a little longer". I get a lot of strange looks at work::confused2

Howdy neighbor!

I have family near Adams Center (Tug Hill) Ahh yes the 18 inches of snow "scattered flurries" forecast. They have more snow than I have on the east side of the state.
