We got back late last night.  And the grewat snow numbers everone got...we did not get nearly what everyone else did.  We were camped at 9100 feet and we got three to four inches...at the top of the mountain maybe 5-6 inches.  Last year we got almost 2 feet of snow.  The last two days there I walked my ass off and did not even cut an elk track.  I saw deer everywhere.  I had a herd of about 10-12cows pegged knew where they would be every night and this went on for 4 days. and I just  knew they would bring a bull in with them eventually..even if it it was just a small bull.  Once the snow hit they changed there patteren 100%.  Did not see them the rest of the trip.  I even made a trip ablove the area they were hanging out at and there was any sign of them around at all...not tracks no nothing.  Every hunter we came across and talked to and they had talked to other hunters...noone had any cow tags and not one person had seen a bull all week.....very frsutrating....we could have used alot more snow...maybe that would have helped.

It's pretty crazy how some snow will completly change the pattern of the elk. In some cases I have seen 3 feet of snow do nothing to drive the elk down or change them in any way and other times I have seen 6 inches drive them out of an area altogether. The only thing predicable about elk is they're unpredicable. I wouldn't think they would have just disappeared but who knows. Good luck to our buddies.

You never know what snow is going to do to the elk herd.  Where I was hunting in Utah this year there was 2' and the elk were right in the middle of it at 9,000'.  After the shooting started they headed down into the steepest canyon that they could find but they came back up a few days later.  So if you are not seeing any tracks you need to move down until you start to see them and then hit it hard.  But they may surprise you and head back up the hill. 

We were at 10 k at sleepy cat peak and only cut old track, very frustrating hunt!! Everyone we talked to never saw a elk all week, we hiked proably 15 miles one day over 2 miles in and nada!!

Yeah I walked mt butt off before and after the storm and I never cut a single elk track.  deer trackis everywhere....saw alot of deer berfore and after the storm.
