Yes, I went to Eastern Washington the past three days, in search of both mule deer and whitetail.  We stayed in an old cabin (1800's) and did a little fishing in Crab Creek, better known to the locals as Crab Crick.  Several 15 inch native trout and one 18 incher blessed our stringer before we were done.

And then the day in the field.  I should have worked up to something like this.  My 66 year old legs got a real workout.  We hiked close to 10 miles but OH, did we see the deer!  We saw only a very few does as they were tending young fawns.  But the boys were out and about.  We saw over 20 bucks and at least 16 were legal.  A couple of them made us catch our breath.  We saw at least 8 that we agreed would look good on the wall.  And yes, we saw the strangler, named for how he makes even an experienced hunter "choke" at the moment of truth.  With six to eight weeks of antler growth left, he is already outside the ears. 

What a day we had!!!  We picked several places to be on opening day.  We even spent some time looking at the spot Groovy Mike shot his only mule deer and reenacting the event.  We saw three young coyote pups and two large adults as well as a monster coyote swimming the creek.  And to top it off, we killed three rattlesnakes that are now skinned and in the freezer.  On our Fourth of July weekend of camping, we'll prove to a bunch of people that rattlesnake tastes just like chicken.

I will write up the story of the cabin we stayed in and post some pictures in the near future.  What an incredible few days we had!!  Lookin forward to a great time with Groovy Mike in October.
