Silvertip or Nosler Partition?

I am hunting southern Wisconsin for whitetail, and am using a .270 Win. I am debating on the Federal Premium Nosler Partition 130gr. or Winchester Ballistic Silvertips 130gr. Just wondering what your opinion is on the better choice and why. I have a better than average chance of taking shots that are 200 yds. or farther. Both sight in the same, but still can't decide.
Let me know.

Thanks

Silvertip or Nosler Partition?

I think the partition has better controlled expansion than the ballistic silvertips so I would go with the partition. I have used the partition in many applications and calibres and have never been disappointed.

I have used Nosler Partition in the past with mostly good luck. Although I have dug out partition bits out of elk where the bullet flew apart rather than mushrooming like it should.

Never tried ballistic tips.

I am a Nosler Partition guy right down to the ground. I have 4 different "big" game rifles and use NP's in all 4 calibers (also my 44 mag). That is not to say that I do not like the silvertip. It is a fine bullet that has taken its share of game. Since you have an unbias opinion. I would get a box of each and take the gun out to the range. Guns can sometimes be finiky about the make of cartrige they shoot. See if one shoots better than the other out of your gun, then hunt with the better shooter.

I agree with ADKBEAR that you should shoot both and find out which one your weapon favors. Since you are hunting Wisconsin whitetails the Nosler vs. Silvertip is not as much an issue as if you where after larger game(elk, moose) where the Nosler penetrates those larger animals with great results. Best luck with those Wisconsin whitetails(I'm a Wisconsin resident)!

I agree also, you should shoot your gun with both bullets, I just found out this weekend that a silvertip out of my 2506 will flatten a muley at 500 yds. LUCKY SHOT!!, but it hit him perfect and dropped him dead, I found the bullet lodged in his opposite side still held together, it had good expansion also, but for deer both will work just fine, whatever you gun likes most.

i would say hunt with the partitions. also if it is just for white tail perhaps you should look into ballistic tip bullets

Try the new AccuBonds 140 grainers of Nosler. This bullet combines the accuracy of the Ballistic Tip and the controlled expansion of the NP. I got superb accuracy in my .270 Win, even better than the Ballstic Tip. Loaded with Hodgdon 4831/58; muzzlevel. 3050 fps, SD 11. Grouping average 0,58 MOA. Weight retention about 60%, in most cases exit on elk. My 'huntingrange'is about 150 to 300 yards.

I dont know about your .270, But my .243 will shoot the Partitions, Ballistic tips, and the Silver ballistic tips GREAT! It will make dime size groups at 70yrds with all three bullets with out any ajustments.

I have been wanting to try the new accubond bullets, I like nosler bullets and I need to shoot up my silvertips before I try anthing else, I guess I haven't priced them, but are they more expensive or about the same?

I would use the partition dispite the tip being so soft. If you aren't careful, the tip will damage while loading and could be way off target.

I trust ballistic tips and silvertips because they open so quick and the deer or whatever your shooting knows it was hit. But between the 2 bullets you listed, Id choose the partition hands down.
