Sickness in wild hogs?

My cousin came across a wild hog last night and called me up to see if I wanted it. once I got there the hog looked to be sick and having trouble walking. The ranch manager there said he had ricket from a tick??? I can't find any info on this ricket and was wandering if its anything like Brucella suis Infection. He tried to convince me it was ok to eat but I passed up on the hog. I usually take what he gives me but I just couldn't bring myself to eat a sick wild hog.

anyone got any info on this topic?

thanks

AA

I never heard of

I never heard of Ricket.

Maybe he got bit by a snake, our wild hogs over here love to eat rattle snakes. Its possible the snake got him first.

I'm not sure what happened to

I'm not sure what happened to the hog and havn't been able to find any info online about the ricket thing. The hog looked fine just couldn't walk very well. There were no visable signs of a rattle snake. it's not really rattlesnake coutry but there are alot of water mocasons in the swamp near by.Confused

Maybe CWD has spread to

Maybe CWD has spread to pigs...... Yes

Seriously though, would be nice to find out more about it.  I wouldn't have eaten it either, not knowing what it was.

CWD only effects cervids (deer, elk, moose). The CDOW has a study looking at transmission to predators (mtn. lions) and so far there has been no horizontal transmission. And that's after years of feeding the cats only infected meat.

According to the MYFWC.com

According to the MYFWC.com website there is no CWD is Florida. Supposidly there are no reported cases of it down here.

I'm not sure what it was in the pig but I can't bring myself to eat a sick animal unless my survival depended on it.

It couldn't have been cwd but

It couldn't have been cwd but I wonder if it was some other transmissible spongiform encelphalopathy that can infect suiforms.
