Should I Switch To Mechanicals

Now that I will be outfitting a new bow Dancing , I am thinking about switching to mechanical broadheads. I have always used muzzy 3 blades. I have never taken a big game animal with it though.

Since the bow was free I am planning on not skimping on anything for it. What do you guys think about mechanicals and should I make the switch?

Thats up to you

hawkeye,

I have been a huge fan of mechanicals for quite a few years. This year I did not get to release my new Blood Runners, but my brother did and they worked awesome.

Good luck on your decision and practice, practice, practice !

I would love to try the Blood

I would love to try the Blood runners, but as far as i know they are illegal in oregon, we have to use a fixed blade. with the blood runner its a fixed mechanical but not sure if its legal here. i wish they were.

I really think it comes down

I really think it comes down to personal preference.  I have some buddies that only shoot muzzy 3 blades, and others who shoot the rage or other mechanical.  Heck, I myself have 3 Grim reapers and a muzzy 3 blade in my quiver, so I am covered on both ends.

I use the muzzy 3 blade 100

I use the muzzy 3 blade 100 gr heads, they fly great out of my bow. but like others have said its a personal prefrence. if you do switch find a head that flys good out of your  set up. good luck, and congrats on that bow.

Shoot what shoots best out

Shoot what shoots best out the bow.  I shoot both mechanicals and fixed.  I shoot the rage 3 balde for antelope and I use my Slick Trick Magnums for elk and deer.  I just do not want to trust a mechanical on a heavy bones animal like an elk.  If you make a good shot with a mechanical you are gonna be just fine, but a fixed gives you some lee way just in case you make a poor shot.  That being said both are gonna  perform great with good shot placement, and both with do OK with mediocore shot placement.  So my advice would choose the broadheads you wanna shoot with and pick the one that you and your bow shoot the best.

I picked up some Hellraisers

I picked up some Hellraisers that I was going to shoot. But ended up with the Rage 2 blades and they worked sweet. I shot a small buck for meat. It dressed 110 pounds and had 3 points

Thanks for all the advice

Thanks for all the advice guys. I am going to wait to get broadheads till I have everything else put on the bow so I am still open to more suggestions. I think I will probably end up switching to mechanicals... or I will atleast give them a try and see how well they fly from the new set up. If I can not get them to shoot well than I will obviously stick with the muzzy's I guess.

Why switch?

Just curious as to why you want to switch?  I know I switched several times becasue of all the hype.  My broad head box is starting to rival my tackle box! lol

See my comments here for my reasons for what I have tried and what I am using now:

I switched to the Rage

I switched to the Rage 2-blades.  I like them because they shoot just like my field points and cut a massive hole in the animal.  I could tune my bow to shoot field points and fixed broadheads almost the same, but elevation was slightly different.  With the Rage mechanicals they are identical which means I can practice more with field points.
