Should I stay or should I go....?

I can understand what you guys are saying- alot of people/ vegetarian activists and especially animal rights activists probably come in and spam the shit outta your board and take off- People come in to some of the boards I frequent and spam all kinds of weird crap and take off- most of the time it's really annoying. I promise I wont do that here as long as I stick around. Truth is, although it's oxymoronic to be here as a vegan- I kind of get out of it- and I think there's a niche here for a complete opposite like me- the thing that makes the boards I usually go to interesting is the diverse people that come out and post regularly.
but whatever there still 4 days to get rid of me in my poll - we'll see what happens.

here's a link that might entertain some folk here:

http://www.geocities.com/peetafan/letters.html (from http://peeta.org/ )

it's an anti animal rights site that had a contest for "you might be an animal rights wacko if..." they let me win. Wink

I, for one, am glad you are staying with the site and hope that the name calling from BOTH sides of the fence will stop. I am an open minded individual who can see the positive in this situation. We have a totally new point a view that we sometimes don't take in account. I look forward to chatting with you in the future. It there is anything you want answered in the forum I will strive to give a complete, honest answer as I'd expect from you. BTW, I know three die hard veggies that are also avid hunters. That is not to say their game goes to waste as there is always somebody wanting venison, etc. I hope the other hunters here will realize that V_C will probably be the "devil's advocate" and may not have popular opinions but they are just that... opinions. It would be no less popular than me saying the 30-30 is the best long range calibre ever made. lol

I can sorta relate to your veg*n hunting friends- For the first many years of my life before I went vegan (at the tender age of 14) - I was a fisherman that rivaled even Al linder or Bob Izummi- I loved creek fishing, especially for specks and other creek fish. I was never a big fan of eating fish and adopted a "catch and release" mentality years before it was popular. These days I still have my tackle box but it's been years since I caught a fish. I even possessed a fishing license last year- actually it's still valid! When I fish, there's certain rules I have to keep the fish at equal odds-things like: I won't use live bait- Only barbless hooks and it's catch n release- unless of course my fishing buddies want the ones I catch (or to get a quota for the boys)- fishing used to be about the fish and the "hunt" for me; these days it's to drink beer and hang with lads in nature. Some might think it's hypocritical for a vegan activist to fish- screw them- I've done much more in the past 14 years for veganism than most activists groups will ever accomplish in their lifetimes with combined members. I don't like hunting- probably never will- I would very much like to shoot off some guns and even own one- (as far as I know the only way to aquire an FAC is to pass hunter's safety course- this will never happen in my case :-? ) when I was 14, I illegally owned a 30/30 winchester that a family friend gave me. I never got to fire it off (and regret it now- I want to feel a "kick" of a powerful gun against my shoulder)- I ended up trading the rifle for an awsome russian made pellet gun that was more powerful than a .22- but the police confiscated it (cause cops are dicks) and I ended up not getting it back before they destroyed it. :( - I forgot they had it until it was too late.

on an unrelated note:
I was thinking about this earlier:
Do black people hunt, or is it like nascar?

V_C if you want to shoot a gun & need to take a hunter's safety class, I'd say just suck it up & go. The classes are really more about gun safety than hunting, at least here in the US its like that. Not sure about Canada.

Now about your comment about black people hunting... YES of course they hunt! Our corner of Colorado is very popular for elk, mule deer & antelope, and every fall we see every ethnic group & color that exists. Lots of southeners come hunt here, both black & white. Its a blast!

Not all cops are bad just like not all vegetarians are bad, or animal rights activists. Welcome to the forum, eating vegetables is good for you, and I should eat more. We respect you, you respect us. Big smile

V_C I also hope you stay around. This is a hunting forum "For Hunters-By Hunters" as the Logo states but there are these few Topics that allow for open disscussion on non hunting issues.

I dont come here to hear a mirror image of my own thoughts and welcome any opinions opposite to my own. Thats the whole point of debate....right?

Hunters and Hunting have been shown in such a negative light in the Movies and TV that its no wonder most non hunters have a bad opinion of us. Hollywood is run by people close to the anti-hunter/hunting radicals mind frame and beliefs so we are shown as uneducated drunken inbred idiots who are wandering around shooting "Bambi" and letting him lie on the ground to rot. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Most Hunters I know are, for the most part, naturalist who enjoy the outdoors and nature. I know that I have just as much of an enjoyable time in the outdoors when I dont take an animal as I do when I do take one.

Almost everyone I have debated with has been extremely helpful and respectful towards me and the others that have posted replies. Of course there are exceptions. Some topics are hotly debated and folks stand firm in their beliefs and that is great. There are, however, a few agitaters who will do no better than to suck you into an arguement for the sake of argueing. You have run into him I have seen.....dont fret cause so have I.

I agree with cowgal, suck it up and take the hunters safety course. It is mostly about Firearm safety with some survival skills and woodsmanship thrown in. Then go to a Range and atleast rent you a Rifle and shoot away.

So welcome and I hope you stay around but when you characterize us hunters as "Rednecks" expect a hot debate. There are plenty of Rednecks that dont hunt......it cuts into their beer drinkin time. Just be truthful and accurate with your facts and you'll find a great bunch of folks here.

V_C, the course you need up here in Canada is the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the name speaks for itself. It is 95% about safe handling of a firearm and maybe 5% about hunting and that 5% is really still safe handling of a firearm but in a hunting situation. Go ahead and take the course, get your PAL(possession and acquisition license) which will allow you to purchase and operate a firearm. If you want to hunt in NS, for example, you also need a hunter safety course but only if you want to purchase a hunting license. Take up the sport of shooting. It is a great past time.

Wonderful, single guy... who hunts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A freind of mine told me about a guy she knows (who've I've met and he's very nice, attractive, etc.) is single again and looking for that "special woman".

He's a doctor, handsome, sensitive, a handyman, smart, built, and loves animals. Oh, and he cooks, any kind of food you want. He made my friend a portabello sandwich and squash casserole both very tasty.

He tells my friend's husband to be nicer to their animal companions, and he has two cats that he just adores.

But he is from an entire family of hunters, and I know that would really bother me. I think for now I will just get to know him in the company of my friends but I'm not sure if I could ever let it progress from there. What would you do?

Vegan_Cannibal

the windigo Don't chase him; just replace him!

if it's gonna bother you that him and his family are a bunch of rednecks, then it would never work out. Especially if you value your own morals and such. THere will probably be people later on in this thread telling you that you can "change him" or "make him see the light" but in reality these things don't happen.
Sorry- that's just how feel about that :S

The first post is a member of a vegan message forum, the second is our dear friend Vegan_Cannibal's response.

Is this thread still going on? I know a 5 year old that doesn't need this much attention.

I'm hungry I think I'll go have a raw beef & onion sandwich.
