If your comeing to Cen.Cal for the Tule, go to Santa Lucia Sportsmens ASS. gun range on Hwy 1, between SLO and Morro Bay. you can put up targets out at 200 and the gongs go WAY out. Only good place I know here, as the DFG gives everyone the runaround except poachers...I don't shoot in forest here anymore, tired of being hassled while illegal activity goes on around me.

Shooting reduced targets at closer range is always and option. You just wont have the wind effect.

Welcome to BGH.

There's a lot of farms around there. Have you tried asking to shoot on them? Califorina really stinks for things like that.

I didn't realize you weren't in central Coast CA. There is range on Auberry Rd. in Fresno Co. but never been there. The Nat. Forest is your best bet there, be careful and safe. Inquire at USDA-FS office. I use the forest up at my cabin. A-zone Los Padres no go.

Shooting range

Try Sacramento Valley Shooting range. It's a great place to shoot and non-members can shoot up to 300 yards. They have a web site for directions and they are about 1/2 hour south of Sac.

If you haven't shot long distance, you should before going after elk, unless you are disciplined enough to know your limitations when a long shot presents itself. Good luck
