Chokes are of minimal use at best, especially with steel shot. If you plan to do all those hunting sports and can afford only one gun you have to get a 12 ga. It is the only gauge that does all of those well without being under-gunned, especially waterfowl and turkey.

Yes I would agree i have an 870 20 Ga. and An 870 12 Ga. I use the 20 for pheasants, quail, chuckar, and grouse. I use my 12 for Ducks, Geese, and Turkeys. They are a great gun and dont cost a whole lo of $$$.

That is why it is important to get the 12 ga. It may be the only gun you ever need at all. There is not one single animal that I can think of that the 12 ga. can't take out within it's range and with appropriate ammo.

A lot of times you can get the Remington 870 Express for around $210-$230. And if you watch the counters(they'll have small pads with tear off sheets for you to send in) at local retail stores and sporting goods departments, you can also get a manufacturers rebate from Remington. I bought my nephew a gun and got a 25 or 30 dollar rebate in the mail from Remington. That makes a $220 gun a $190 gun. You'll need to keep your proof of purchase to send in with the rebate. Good luck.

I personally like the 870 remington and have hunted with one sice i was of age. I would recommend looking in the classified adds. There are some good deals in these types of papers.
