Shotgun Scope mounting options

I'm thinking of putting a scope on my 870 express fully rifled barrel and was hoping to hear some of the options. I know about the 'D' mount that attatches to the reciever. I'm wondering if it is possible to put a cantilever mount on, or other options if so possible.

thanks

Night R
Nice buck up in the whitetail section, Buckhammers???
The D mount is an option. My dad put one on an 870 to hunt in the shotgun zone in NY and it worked just fine. Kind of ugly tho?

Second option if you have multiple barrels for the gun and use for both slugs and shot is to have a competent gunsmith put a catilever mount on your rifled barrel.

Third option if you only use the gun for slugs is to have the top of the reciever tapped and install a mounting bracket. If the gun is a Buckmaster (as opposed to a wingmaster) the reciever "may" already be tapped you just need to remove the set screws that fill the holes. This is what I did to my Ithica Mod 37 Deerslayer. You can get a universal Weaver mounting bracket for less than $10, then rings and scope go on top of that.

2 3/4" buckhammers, even through a few branches and a 1" maple tree. I may switch to something with a better range though.
The cantilever mount is I think what I'm looking for, I just wasn't sure if that was an aftermarket option. Is it posible to buy just the mount, I have a couple friends who are machinists.
If I start looking at buying another gun I'll just get a centre fire 22-250 or 270, as there are no restrictions where I deer hunt (yet).

thanks for the replies

More than likely it will need to be silver solidered on. Take it to a good gunsmith it is what they do. The mount has to be on the bbl just perfect.

I believe Remington does sell a barrel with a cantilever mount on it, but I'm thinking it would be cheaper to add one to the barrel I already have. Also opinions on the D mounts would be appreciated. How are they for holding their zero after taking it off and putting it back on?

I have seen cantilevers that are attached using longer pins that hold the trigger assembly in place. I'll search some of the sites to see where I saw it but it may be what you are looking for. It slides over the receiver and held by the new longer pins.

I think thats what he is calling a D Hammer.... Thats what I had on Mine at first was a B Sqare....Couldnt get it to hold zero for nothing and THAT was with a Nikon 2-7 shotgun scope....Went to the cant barrel and all is well...Same scope on it so it wasnt the scope.... Night raider....If memory serves I think the Barrel with the cantalever is around 150 to 200...You will pay someone around 100 just to mount it for you and no guarentees that it will be dead on then...My advise would be to get the barrel with one mounted from the factory..That way you will know that it is on there with factory specs and measurements and with a guarentee.
