Shotgun Performance

I have a post on the Regional forum but am not getting any response so I will try here. I have an 870 Express 12 gauge, 20" fully rifled barrel that I plan to use in Ohio this fall. I intend to use a 1x red dot sight. What shot distances and groups can I realistically expect from this set up? Thanks in advancd. Chuck<><

What type of shells are you going to use??? A lot depends on that.

If you keep it under 100 yds you should have no problem getting 2.5" groups or better with a good quality sabot slug. I wouldn't go much beyond 100 yds with a 12 ga. but within its distance the 12 ga slug is devastating! Thumbs up

As far as shell selection, I intend to test fire a variety of brands (those that I can buy locally) to see what performs best. Sabot slugs are rather expensive, I paid $10.00 for 5 Winchester slugs at Wal-mart. I use Federal rounds in my .270 with the best success.

Yes, try as many loads as you can to see what shots best. Yes, it can be costly, but once you find out, you are set. Oh yeah, dont go cheap on the red dot. That 870 is going to kick like a mule and it will eat up a cheapie in short order.
