monster moose

Well I went up to check on the area and "found the moose". Someone has been up there and poached him, hopefully there is another one in there.

I have to ask why you think

I have to ask why you think it was poached?

That's a good question.  Did

That's a good question.  Did you find or see the body with a missing head?  Or do you presume since you didn't see him that he was poached.

I agree that it is a possibility since the hunt doesn't start until this coming Saturday.

Interesting, but if you read

Interesting, but if you read his statement, he actually says he found the moose, not that he didn't see him.  So, does that mean he found it dead?

If you found him, was there any bullet wounds, other signs that it was poaching?  And as the other guys suggested, did you call the game wardens, or just say "Oh well" and try to move on to another moose?

Poached??

Yes interested in why you think it was poached? If you believe this to be true did you contact the game wardens so they can investigate? Sure it was not poached as that sucks and is a sickening waste of an amazing animal.

dead moose

I found the the moose laying there, it looked like an arrow in him. The hunt starts tomorrow, fish and game was notified. Investigation started yesterday morning, I have been talking with them through the investigation. It would of been a great once in a lifetime moose.

Yeah, thanks for the update,

Yeah, thanks for the update, and I agree, that sucks big time!  Hopefully there is some kind of evidence on that arrow, however unlikely that is.  Somebody took a great opportunity away from a law abiding hunter.

That sucks

Thanks for the update and that sucks big time. What a waste of a fantastic animal and such a great trophy. Very glad to hear you contacted the fish and game folks and hope they can track this to a conviction. I know in Colorado we see reports every year about elk hunters who kill moose by mistake. I believe it was 9 last year but possibly more. I personally cannot see how you can mistake a moose for an elk but it seems to happen every year. Makes me wonder if that is the case and once they saw what they shot they just left it.  Keep us informed if you find out any more news on this.

moose hunt 2011

I got my moose yesterday morning, it took three and a half hours to get him two hundred yards to the four wheelers. He was 1400 hundred pounds, he is about flurry inches and very nice.
