Shift Covered! I'm hunting 4th season elk!

I had pretty much counted out hunting elk this year due to my job. Well it fell together and I'm leaving on Thursday afternoon. I won't have very long and I have never hunted northwestern Colorado this late in the year. It should be a learning experience to say the least.

There are a lot of elk up in

There are a lot of elk up in Northwestern Colorado and with all this fresh new snow you shouldn't have any problems bagging one.  I'm headed out in the morrning for a quick drive up the hill and hopefully a quick kill as long as the elk are in the same place that I have been watching.  If I get lucky I should be home by noon with meat hanging in the garage.

Good luck

I am definitely glad to see

I am definitely glad to see that we are getting some serious snow but it means that I will have to hunt some new places as our normal stomping grounds that we hunt during 2nd and 3rd season are probably going to be inaccessable. I have a pretty good idea of where to look thanks to some great guys on the site to. I am going to be trying out a low elevation area that I have hunted deer in and I'm hoping that the elk are going to be in there. We will see. Good luck to you on your hunt. It sounds like you are pretty much set up for success which always feels nice. There are some serious question marks for my hunt but I am just happy that I get to chase elk this year. For a while there it was not looking good. My mom will be going along and she has a cow tag. This is her first big game hunt ever so I hope that it goes well. I just want her to atleast see some elk.

I just got back from CO 3rd season, and the animals are running wild with little presure in the middle of the week. GOOD LUCK

Benji -- I sent you a PM So

Benji -- I sent you a PM

So we have a member of the forum that is already up there. He has internet access through his phone and is keeping me posted until I can get up there tomorrow night. There is too much snow for him to access his normal stomping grounds up high and therefore he is lower than he wanted to be. I figured that was the conditions we would be dealing with after the big storm that just pushed through northern Colorado. I was hoping that my moms first hunt wouldn't be quite as cold or snowy as this one is going to be but hey... what can you do? It is not like I can control the weather so we are just going to make the most of it. If we DO get into the elk than we are really going to be into them. They are going to be herded up and it should be pretty good. If we don't get into the big herds than we probably won't see anything. We'll see how it goes.
