Re: sheep boots?

I've heard good things about Lowa boots but personally haven't used them. I've been using Danners for close to 20 years, they don't seem to be as good as they use to be but they still are the best boots I've owned.

Re: sheep boots?

Lowa makes GREAT boots. I have worn the same pair of GTX Sheephunters for 3 AK sheep hunts and a few other backcountry mule deer hunts. They cost but they are manufactured extremely well and are durable. KEEP them conditioned and oiled/waxed and they will last---just don't leave them near the campfire too long--Bad story! Big smile If I can get this pic attached here are mine resting at camp!

Re: sheep boots?

If you don't like a tall boot (the Lowa Sheep hunter gtx is a 10" boot) I would look at the Lowa Tibet GTX. Its almost the same boot but no insulation and shorter/lighter and still gore tex lined. I've probably got several hundred miles on mine in the back country with a load on my back and could not be happier with them. With numerous 20 mile days in these boots I found that my feet and my lower back were in much better shape then when hunting the same terrain in my Asolo boots which I now use as a back up or camp boots. The Asolo's are a lot lighter weight then the lowa's but can't compare when you are carrying weight in tough terrain or climbing through rocky pitches (sheep hunting).
Don't know anything about the Scarpa's.
