Just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder, the Obama administration takes it up a notch. Scroll through the attached Janet Napolitano interview to where the subject of Joe Arpaio comes up, and you'll find this gem regarding illegal aliens:

"Crossing the border is not a crime per se. It is civil."

Apparently she's forgotten that according to 8 U.S.C. 1325, crossing the border illegally is a misdemeanor for the first offense, and a felony for the second and subsequent offenses.

And these are the people who said Bush made America less safe.

Anything of substance to add, Pogo? Your Dear Leader has put someone in charge of homeland security that thinks there's no crime in sneaking across our borders.

Does that make you feel safer?

Sadly the current dem administration all seem to have non-existent memories. Its going to take another tragedy on American soil to wake everyone up and see how badly our security got screwed up.

Th left seems to believe that 911 was the fault of the Bush administration and as such, we need not worry now that Obama is in office. Now that we're so friendly and kind, why ever would they want to hurt us? This obviously is naive and dangerous in the extreme and I believe you are correct Cowgal. Even under Bush we did little or nothing to implement any real Security measures on our borders and I don't see the current administration making it a priority. .

IMO the clock's ticking. If I was a bad guy watching this administration's foreign affairs play out, I'd say that American resolve has imploded and that they've collapsed into a puddle of weakness. Indications also suggest that if America were hit hard now, it would lack the willpower to confront anyone on the international stage and would instead direct its attentions inward in an orgy of political cannibalism.

Meanwhile, the nation is in the process of dismantling its intelligence apparatus and its Director of Homeland Security doesn't understand border security, considers the Mexican and Canadian borders to be the same, thinks its war veterans are potential extremists, and thinks the 9/11 hijackers entered the US from Canada.

America was once the house with all the valuables sitting in a bad neighborhood, owned by a cop with a security system, floodlights around the house, an ill-tempered german shepherd patrolling inside the fence, and a penchant for cleaning his weapons on the front porch. Then one day the guy decides HE's the problem, not the gangs. So he takes down the fence, shuts off the lights, gets rid of the dog, sells his guns, keeps his doors unlocked, and puts a big sign out front that says "This Is A Gun-Free Home." He then sits watching his big-screen TV with his knockout teenage daughter in front of the windows and thinks that surely the gangs will leave him alone now that he's not as threatening.

Let me review just to make sure I've got this earth shattering piece of news correct. Napolitano states that it's a civli crime to sneak over the border which Expatriate tells us is correct, but she neglected to say that if you do it twice it's a felony. Expatriate feels that neglecting to mention this important factoid proves she's a total dimwit and is going to leave us vulnerable to hoards of Muslims sneaking across the border knives clenched in teeth to murder and rape our women and children in their sleep, unlike president bush who ignored daily inteligence briefings saying "Al Qaeda about to attack US" and went mountain biking.

This on a day when every news source in the United STates is screaming the headlines of various bush officials vying to be the first to push the other under the torture bus and we just don't know how high up the chain the jail terms are going to go. Condi Rices attourney is doing some serious butt covering on her behalf, Darth Vader is shouting to anyone who will listnen that if they'd just release the memos that exonerate him instead of the photos of him in full S&M drag we'd see he is as innocent as the driven snow. I swear if we have any more 4 star generals asking for investigations of the bush white house or "senior inteligence officials" talk about desperatly waterboarding to get some kind of any kind of al qaeda / iraq link because the whole war was a fake anyway to get re elected, I'm going to scream.

But ya,,, it's real interesting that little tidbit that your second crossing is a felony and Napolitano didn't mention that. Interesting. Absorbing even. Who'd a thunk it?

So lets see,, 3000 on 9/11 (whoops dropped the ball) 4000 plus since then in iraq, another what, 200,000 civilians, maybe 600 billion for the war, so far that is, more?

Interesting about those dog gone brown people slipping under the wire, press #2 for English, diablo, arreeba, carumba burito! It's a catastrophe!

Poor Cnivilin,
You really need to get some education on laws before you post on them. Napolitano, our third secratary of homeland security doesn't know the difference between a misdemeanor crime and a civil matter and apparently neither do you. To explain it to you Civet, as it was explained to me in the Police academy a misdemeanor is a crime. As such it has a punishment attached to it if you are in violation. A civil matter is not a crime and as such carries no punishment. Such as a lawsuit or debt settlement or non criminal auto accident. Such matters may be settled out of court privately or overseen by judicial means. A Felony is a serious crime usually punishable by a prison term of more than a year. That you wouldn't know this is not surprising. That one of the top law enforcement officials in the U.S. wouldn't know it is disturbing. The rest of your rant is off topic and irrelevant.

Thanks, Bunny, for stating the obvious to someone that should be able to understand such things.

Napolitano said it's not a crime. A misdemeanor is a crime. As Bunny stated, that's different from a civil matter. She's a dimwit because she's the head of Homeland Security and doesn't even realize that crossing the border is against the law.

That's just plain stupid.

Second, she claimed that the 9/11 hijackers came across the border from Canada, which flat-out isn't true -- they came here directly from overseas. So the head of Homeland Security doesn't know where the hijackers came from that committed the bloodiest terrorist attack in our nation's history.

Again -- stupid.

Don't you think that the person charged with security of the entire nation ought to have basic knowledge related to the job? Oh, that's right...you're a liberal -- you don't think people need to be capable; they just need to be politically pure.

And as far as the waterboarding issue goes, why is Obama afraid to release what the interrogation techniques gained us? He's only releasing what was done, but refusing to release what we found out by it. Seems to me that if they're going to divulge this stuff, we ought to know what was worth that kind of effort, don't you think?

Oh...but what if we waterboarded somebody and broke up a plot that would've killed thousands? Isn't it interesting that Obama's own national intelligence director said that we got valuable information through those techniques that helped protect us, but that those comments were redacted when the memo was made public?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30335592/

Obama's not interested in releasing what we learned through those interrogations, because this whole thing is about resurrecting the Bush boogeyman to divert attention away from growing criticism. He wants to talk only about the bad, but not the good that came out of it.

I'm with Cheney on this one -- if you want to expose our intelligence process to the world for the sake of politics, expose the whole story. If there's nothing there that would justify waterboarding a terrorist, then there should be no reason for Obama to fear releasing it, should there?

Well I for one am eternaly gratefull for the clarification, I can't imagine why I was so ignorant of what constitutes what kind of crime when crossing a border and how eminently important that distinction is. Don't know how the heck I went to sleep last night. What of the potatoe famine?

I heard a description of the Republican Party last night. They're in the post junta mode. The one where the only purpose is to protect the ousted junta from prosecution. It seems to be the one subject where the message machine still works. The goal isn't to return to power but to save the big guys from the slammer. Good luck. Y'all can have Pelosi too.

"But but but if they would just release the non existant memos you'd see I'm innocent", "I only broke the law to do my patriotic duty of trying to gin up a reason to start a war killing thousands" . Tell it to the judge.

As usual you missed the whole point of the post. It's not important you realize the difference between a lawsuit and a crime, which crossing our borders without permission is. It is however important that the head of homeland security knows it and apparently she doesn't. Something any raw Police recruit can easily tell you. As to the rest yes we know Bush and Cheney are the anti-christ incarnate, personaly responsible for original sin and probably fattening too. Blah blah yada yada same old song and dance. Yawn. Where you get the Pelosi remark I don't know. Makes no sense. Your mind is like a squirrels nest. It just keeps getting nuttier and nuttier.
