Seminar

For those that are interested (and close enough) there is going to be an Elk hunting seminar in Mesa, Arizona. It will be held on August 20th at the Sheraton Mesa Hotel starting at 6:30pm. It is being sponsered by the Red Mountain Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
There will be videos and lectures on Elk calling (Primos Pro Staff will be there), tactics, field care, behavior, taxidermy, etc. There will also be raffles for prizes, displays, and representatives from the Az. Game and Fish Dept.
The cost is $10 with 16yrs and under free. Call 480-988-4262 for more information.

See you there. Wink

Seminar

Well I went to the seminar with a freind of mine and there was quite a turnout. There was a delay in starting so that the convention center could round up more chairs.
It was pretty good, but I wish there had been more vendors/manufacturers there. To me, the highlight of the evening was the rep from Primos game calls. The guy was excellent. He had hunting videos of calling Elk (he was in all of them) and would stop the film and explain what was happening in between. Very informative. One thing he did that I will try here in a couple weeks (I hope) is that after you have arrowed the Elk is to give one or two soft cow calls. It settles the Elk right down, they often stop in their tracks, and this makes the tracking/recovery effort much easier. He showed it in the video to prove his point a couple of times.
I also thought it was very good of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation what they did for the kids there. They called all the youth 16 and under up front and gave them hats and had us applaud the future of hunting. There were quite a number by the way (30?). In a show of hands, approximately 75% of the people there had never hunted Elk before so there was a lot of interest in the taxidermist that gave a lecture on what to do when the animal is down. He was good too.
Anyway, I had a good time and it was worth ten bucks. Even though I didn't win any of the prizes in the drawings. Bummer. Wink

That's interesting about using the short cow calls after sticking a bull. Had not heard of that before, if you get a chance to try this year, I am interested to hear how it worked out.

Yes that is nice what the RMEF did for the kids, good for the kids to feel like a part of the group and that they are important too. Sounds like they had a nice seminar.
