that's great, u'll have a great time
I myself don't like the idea of baiting daily .
i bait once a week and sometimes twice and make sure there's plenty of food to last to the next trip, the less visits to the site the less the chances of spooking a bear , i like the bears to feel safe until the day i hunt.
now that 2 ppl are on stand, it means double the odor, to overcome that u need to overwhelm these bears with fresh nice sweet smell ,but before i tell u how u r gonna be able to acheive it i wanna respond to something u said earlier.
u said u wanna make a routine for bears to follow by ringing a bell and climbing the stand to make them get used to the sound when doing so,, well, although i have never tried the bell before , i suggest u try hiting the drum few times better in my opinion then ringing a bell. now regarding the noise u make when climbing the stand, i gotta say to u that no noise should be done whatsoever while climbing, u should take ur time , and remember that u need to be as quiet as possible when hunting them so therefore u need to take ur time and get on the stand and wait. when i climb my stand i take about 5 minutes to climb 10 steps, and while doing so i make sure nothing is gonna be in my way and nothing is gonna rub my clothes while getting up there.
now the smell.
i always take bear hunting to the extreme whether bears are easy or hard i treat all bears the same and consider them to be nasty and hard to trick, so this way i don't leave room for error .
now that u and ur daughter gonna be on stand which means double the odor i suggest u do something to help cover ur smell so i suggest u do this :
on the day of ur hunt and after u take a shower and make sure u r clean and no funny smell on u , u walk to the bait site and u spray the whole area with peppermint, anise oil, vanilla ( make sure u spray alot, and i mean alot ) spray all over the bait and the trees, do not leave anything unsprayed , then do a slow honey burn not the quick honey burn ( if u don't know what slow honey burn ask me ) then u and ur daughter climb the tree and wait quietly for bears to come,, i sometimes spray myself with vanilla to match the surrounding , let me tell ya it works !!
i did like cowboy al idea of spraying vanilla from the stand every now and then,, ( very nice one Al ) keep the smell fresh alot longer.
regarding the stand location.
How many time u hear this from bear hunters :
man there is lots of bears around but none is hitting when i am there!! and then u hear them say something like this,, what the @#$@## is going on , why they are not coming during the day ?
make sure, and i mean make sure u r picking a location that bears feel safe in it,, now seeing bear scat and tracks all over the place doesn't mean u r in the right location to setup ur stand, to make sure u picked the right location, look for lots of cover and far away from any human activity or close to heavy traffic , seeing signs in that location is a sure thing that bears are around but it doesn't say when they were made , so look around and judge the location,, is there enough cover ? does the bear feel safe here to walk during the day ? if not enough cover or bears don't feel safe, then the bear that left these signs behind is a nocturnal bear, so these signs were made sometimes during the night .. if so there is no way u can get this bear in 1 week hunting, so u and ur daughter gonna have a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng boring unsuccessfull hunt.
always good to find bear tracks but it's even better to know when these tracks were made, before u hang the stand u r gona have to look at the location and say " this is a great location to hang my stand " !!!
