Scouting season is coming early this year

I'm chomping at the bit and thankfully the weather is starting to cooperate.  This winter has been so mild, I'm certain we are going to end up with drought conditions.  However, it looks like much of the mountainous country that I wouldn't normally be able to access until June is almost snow free at this point up to about 10,000 feet.

Going to make the turkeys  a little more spread out this spring, but hey, at least I can go hunting and scouting finally.

I wish I could say the same

I wish I could say the same thing. We got snow yesterday. I won't be able to get to my areas until June.

It'll melt

I was at the Breckenridge Brew Fest this weekend and it snowed the whole time, but barely stuck.

Looking at the NRCS snotel sites and that looks like it's pretty much melting quickly all over the place.

The early April streamflow forecast and snowpack maps all indicate the whole state is less than 50% of normal.

I'm sure some small locales will be inaccessible until mid or late June, but most of the country I'll be hunting this year will be accessible pretty soon.

I agree 100%. Snow pack is

I agree 100%. Snow pack is really low this year. It's going to ruin my high mountain creek fly fishing. They'll dry up early this year.

I'll be hunting up at Mineral Basin and around Ptarmigan Lake this year. The road going up there gets a lot of snow drifts, and at 11,000-12,000ft it takes awhile to dry up. The warm spell we were getting was drying it up pretty good, but these latest storms have turned it solid white again.

Oh well, i'll just have to wait. It will be fine for ML season, but I can't wait to get up there and look around.
