Scouting for Roosevelts

Besides the obvoius tracks and tirds, when I go scouting this year in SW WA where should I look to locate where the Elk are at in all the thick stuff? Do they tend to stick to the river bottoms or are they up higher? I'll be hunting the Willapa Hills Unit.

I think it will depend a little on when you are scouting. If it is warm they will end up in the drainages near water during the heat of the day. You will want to check the cuts in the early morning and just before dark.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll definenly concentrate on those areas when I head out. I'm assuming that the early bow season is during the rut so I will be able to locate them by listening for them. Do most people call then spot/stalk during the rut or do people set up on trails with ground blinds and tree stands?
