Scouting Elk (MT)

Question for those of you who have had success in the past. Bear with me this is a long story with a question at the end.

I am helping my two friends out who managed to pull general elk permits. My buddy and I flew out to Montana this past weekend (he had FF miles that were expiring). We rented a vehicle and scouted some likely spots for 2 full days in one of the zones that has had decent success in previous years and was available for anyone with a general elk license. We spotted close to 20 animals including a nice 6x6 that was with 2 cows, a calf and a spike. (also shot a limit of mountain grouse)

Should we target the exact locations these animals were in another 2 weeks when the firearm season starts.

Should have brought a bow with us although my buddy has never shot one before.

In my experience, they likely won't be exactly where you last found them in two weeks, especially in the fall with rapidly changing weather. But I would certainly start right there. They likely didn't leave that drainage, but could be a little lower in two weeks, or a little higher, depening on what's going on pressure and weather-wise
