Alpine, that management area you're talking about, is it a permit area or can anyone hunt them?

We have some places around here that are hunted only by permit and can be pretty good to hunt. A lot of the public gamelands are hunted by houndsmen and you never know when they've hunted or when they'll be back. I like to hunt the permit areas but it's a question of whether I'll get drawn.

Maybe I'll get drawn again this year. I put in for a couple of different areas and bear this year. We'll see.

It really depends on the season. This WMA is open for all archery season but you need to be drawn for the first 9 days of gun season. There are about 100 WMA's in FL and most of them are different. With the dates and seasons all changing acording to the WMA.

I drew 4 quota permits this year. 3 of them are draw only and the other one is for the first 9 days. After the first 9 days anyone can hunt there. Florida does allow a buddy hunt system which you can hunt out of the same vehicle as someone with a quota permit and share a bag limit. Since you can kill 2 deer a day down here thats great for those hard to draw units.

My uncle drew a unit where only 35 hunters are allowed in each season. I've hunted this area before and plan on using his buddy permit. Hopefully I can make something happen in of of the units this year.

My season starts on the 18th in a wildlife refuge which is open to all hunters. The following weekend of the 25th is when most quoto permits start in the WMA's.

Floridas system is quite confusing at time but if you figure it out there are some great opputunitys to hunt big game on public land from september all the way untill feb.

Still a good trip in the woods though....

Here are a couple pic of the SW entrance to my lease. The water is FLOWING out. I had a couple of pics of the water under one of my stands but it kinda dark. I'll try to lighten it up and post also.

Florida has really screwed up the WMA permit process to try and mimic other states and try to use a Point system. Mabe they'll get it together soon. I have completely quit using WMAs even though I am surrounded by one at work.

Where abouts do you hunt at man?? I'd have to agree with ya 100% on the WMA things, but I have no choice but to hunt pubnlic lands. Can't afford to join a club and don't know anyone that will let me hunt their land.

We're headed up to Lower Suwannee NWR on the 17th for about 5 days. Then its back home to hunt Goathe WMA starting on the 25th... All my permits are for citrus this year and the season doesnt start up there till november. My family runs dogs in richloam but I'm not real big into the dog hunting thing. I only make it up there a few times a year.

Backpacker I'm not real familiar with the area down there so I'm not much help. I do believe that turkey season is in march or april down there. I'll have to check the brochure for ya...
