Scopes??

I need help finding a scope for my.50 cal Remington 700 ML. It's ok to shoot without a scopeat the range, but I would rather have one to hunt with. So here are my questions:

1. What scope do you use? Make, power, lense size?

2. What does it cost?

3. Can I use a regular rifle scope if it is listed as "SHOCKPROOF"?

4. Will a shotgun or slug gun scope work?

#1---I use a Nikon Prostaff shotgun scope in 2-7x and a T/C Hawken scope in 3-9x, they both work nicely.
#2---Both scopes were under $150 each.
#3---The scope does not have to be "shockproof"
#4---Actually I think the shotgun scopes work best on muzzleloaders.
Good luck

A real expensive and powerful scope is not needed for a M/L. A simple $35 tasco pronghorn would be sufficient. Its what I use.

I agree 100%-----------------I originally had a Tasco Pronghorn on my 209x50 but put the Nikon 2-7X on it. The Tasco worked fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well here's what I did:

I purchased a Bushnell 6-18x50 Banner rifle scope and swapped it with a tasco 3-9x50 that was on my BAR 30-06. The tasco will be mounted with new rings and bases on the Rem ML. The total cost will be about $175 including tax which isn't too bad since I'm getting a decent scope to put on my BAR in case I ever need it.

The only word of caution I would throw out about cheap scopes is their performance in adverse (esp cold, cold/wet) weather. My first ever scope was a tasco 4X25 purchased off the shelf from the local hardware store (don't remember the model). It worked great all summer. Come Nov, when the temp dipped down to -10C it was very prone to fogging from my breath. Granted that was in the late 80's and perhaps these issues have been resolved. True, you don't need the performance (zoom etc), but reliability and ruggedness are still essential.

It rarely dips below the teens here but I have used the tasco on my BAR and I usually hold half my breath and release it only after I have pulled away from the scope.

I have a Cabela Pine Ridge 2.5-7 on my Omega and it works great.

Again you really don't need an expensive scope for a ML. I think the PR runs 60 to 70 bucks.

Good Hunting

Got to the shop on Mon. and put the Bushnell on the BAR no problem, borsighted and all. Mounted the tasco got ready to boresight went to take off the top adjusment cap and presto it was locked up. Got out the trusty rag and pliers and broke the "pot metal" ring that hold the adjusment screw and allows it to turn. So I ended up buying a BSA 3-12x50 for $40 so I got away for $225 for two scopes a set of rings and bases.
