WELL, pigs are not the smartest game in the woods with poor vision but they can sure smell good. Yes you should always practice scent controll that way you dont spook all the other game in the area for future hunts( yote,bobcats,deer, bear,fox, elk,) well you get the picture. As far as bait check your state regs. to see if its legal. Overhere the hogs are raiding the crops (oranges,rasins/grapes,percimins) and the acorns.

Make sure you hit them forward with a well placed arrow, or better quartering away. If you spook a boar while in your stand, you can usually snort them back in. I dont know why more hunters dont do this, Ive had good luck calling them back especially big boars all alone.

Scent control is critical when hog hunting. Hogs have an excellent nose. IF they smell you, your hunt is pretty much over. Their eyesight is poor as well as their hearing. Youi should do everything you can to control your scent and then, you will still need to pay attention to the wind.
As far as scents, we have good luck using grape, cherry or strawberry Koolaide as an attrractant.
