SCARED

Folks, hang on to your brass, components, and factory ammo.
I just received it on very reliable authority that Obama, with DHS, is buying up all the ammo he can to drive the prices up to keep ammunition out of the hands of us citizens.
I know things have been scarce lately but I didn't think it was a plot and if it is, and I do believe now that it is, something ochestrated by our own government. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.
I hope this is OK to post. I didn't want to post anything "political" but this is about the supply, and the reasons behind it, more than it's political.

I got the same thing in a email a couple of weeks ago. It would be interesting to see just who starts these rumors, but then if you read about it on the Internet then it has to be true.

READ IT AGAIN

I didn't read it on the internet and until last night I didn't pay attention to the rumors.

Read what I posted again. You could say I got this from the horse's mouth so to speak. It seems they don't have to buy all the ammo and components, just enough to make a dent in the total overall supply. That drives up prices of all ammo and large orders tie up production so that other stuff isn't made.

It's gonna get real ugly folks and I fear a second war on our shores between neighbors, brothers, and father/son.

It must of been a government

It must of been a government agent that I saw at my local WalMart buying all the 22 long rifle and 223 ammo that I saw a month and a half a go I guess. So how about your sources?

No Critter,

Probably just somebody smart enough to stock up while he can.

They don't have to buy up all the ammo, just place a big enough order, which they have already done, to tie up production thus creating a shortage of the stuff we can buy on store shelves.

I've discussed the size of the orders with former Customs folks from FT. Benning and the numbers don't add up. Customs is now DHS in case you don't know. Also discussed the armored vehicles and the number of vehicles ordered are excessive according to folks that know and used to procure these for the government.

I'd love to be wrong about this and until I could verify this from different sources I didn't pay any attention to the rumors. It's going to get ugly folks.

In addition to buying 1.6 billion rounds of small arms ammo, DHS has also purchased 2,700 MRAPs.

Perhaps this is the year that

Perhaps this is the year that DHS needed to secure its ammo for the next 2 or 3 years, who knows except for them. You have to figure that DHS and the federal government uses more ammo than anyone else so it might just figure that they are buying all that they can get. I just attribute it all to people running scared and buying everything that they can get their hands on. There have been stories about assault weapons being banned so all that are on the store shelves are being bought. There have been stories about banning ammo (since the second amendment doesn't cover ammo) so people are buying all that they see for sale. Then there are the ones that bought all that they could get their hands on and are selling it back to the public at premium prices because of the scare tactics.

I personally know of shooters that have more ammo than they could shoot in the next 20 years, and if you ask them why they bought so much they will tell you one of the above reasons. It is just supply and demand. The demand got so great after Sandy Hook that the supply just couldn't keep up.

There is a good read on Hornadys site about the shortage. They say in it that they are running their manufacturing plant as much as possible to get ammo back onto the shelves but as long as Mr. XYZ buys all that he can get his hands on it will take a while.

Now do you remember when President Obama was sworn into office and the shortage of ammo, and reloading components that happened then, if you don't I do. Along with whenever a Democrat get elected into the Presidency the same thing happens. I remember what happened when Carter was elected along with Clinton, perhaps not as extreme as it is now but it did happen.

There is some truth to what

There is some truth to what you say Critter.

It's just that with the conversations I've had, with folks a lot higher up the food chain than I, I'm inclined to suspect it's something more sinister. I really do hope I'm wrong and my sources were just blowing smoke but given their positions I don't think so.

Uh-huh.  According to ATK's data for the Lake City Ammunition Plant, prior to September 11th, the entire US Army only required 693 million rounds per year (combined 5.56mm, 7.62mm and .50 cal).  It reached 1.7 billion rounds in FY 05, when we were fully engaged in both Iraq and Afghanistan.  So you tell me...what does Homeland Security have going on that drives that kind of need for ammo?

Not new

This has been going on for some time. In 2012 DHS ordered 450 million rounds of HOLLOW POINT .40 cal ammo. When asked why? they replied that it was for "target practice". Hp ammo for 'target practice" instead of the cheaper FMJ ammo. humm.  http://www.naturalnews.com/035607_government_checkpoints_Martial_Law.html

Shortly after this order DHS  put in an order for millions of dollars of Bullet-Proof roadside checkpoint booths. These are said to be used for "unannounced checkpoints manned by TSA VIPR teams and other federal agents beyond the 9300 that were set up last year alone"  http://www.prisonplanet.com/after-huge-ammo-buy-dhs-purchases-bullet-res...

Finally there is the purchase of the aforementioned MRAP vehicles purchased by DHS. Lets keep in mind that DHS is an agency that serves the U.S. homeland and is not a Military unit or force and their primary persons of contact will be everyday American Citizens as they go about their daily activities such as going to work or visiting a government building.  http://www.prisonplanet.com/homeland-security-unveils-monstrous-swat-tru...

Just sayin.

I don't really think this gun

I don't really think this gun ban stuff is gonna get that far, congressmen approving it are in thier last term if they do. So many terrible stories flying around, get's really confusing. I can't imagine what DHS needs with anywhere that much ammo but, I suspect they buy to spend their money so they can get more money next year. Lot of government agency's do that. If they don't spend the alloted money this year, they get cut the next year!

The threat form O'Bummer and his group is very real I think, but I strongly suspect that congress in the end won't allow it, they would all be out of a job next election. I have little use for the vast majority of polititions but I think they will do what they need to do to stay on their gravy train!
