Savage plans 6.5x284 rifle

Apparently savage is planning to make a factory 6.5x284 rifle. It can be found here:

http://www.savagearms.com/2007_pressrelease.htm

I was surprised to read this, since I'm not aware of any major manufacture turning out 6.5x284. Have any of you heard of some other manufacture producing a 6.5x284 factory chambering?

Another plus for the short fat rounds.
This is the first factory rifle that I know of.

Savage plans 6.5x284 rifle

I have thought for a long time that if I ran Savage I'd offer wildcatt kit guns. The 6.5x284 and or 6.5x06. Maybe a 280 Ack Imp and a 30-06 Ack Imp. How about a 257 Ack Imp or a 250 Ack Imp. Just build the guns, maybe even in limited numbers, and include dies and load data with it. They migh find a good market for the 338-06 too!

the 6.5-284 is a great round, i use a custom for woodchucks and coyote's i love it, also have a benchrest rifle chambered for it, and at 1,000yrds it is for me the best round avaiable.

Savage plans 6.5x284 rifle

I have a Savage Model 12 FTR (.308W) that I'm doing a product review on. It is in the same family as the 6.5-284 rifle. These are being marketed towards the F-Class competition market hence the names FTR and F Open.

While they are of the same generic Savage design, there are a few features that make them different from the ordinary Savage. The most obvious is the use of three action screws instead of two. There is also the target Accutrigger, the factory 30" heavy barrel which uses the large barrel shank like the RUM/WSM chambered rifles use, and the single shot receiver.

6.5x284 Norma

I'm happy to report that the Savage Long Range Hunter in 6.5x284 Norma is a shooter. This is 3 shots, from prone, at 400 meters.
