Savage Edge Rifle Review

Savage Edge Rifle Review

The last few years has seen growth in the entry level rifle market. The Marlin XL7, Mossberg ATR and 4x4 rifles, T/C Venture join rifles that have been around for awhile like the Weatherby Vanguard, the Remington 710/770, and the Stevens 200 that we recently reviewed. Just shortly after reviewing the Stevens 200, Savage released a new entry level rifle called the Edge. Read more...

Re: Savage Edge Rifle Review

Thanks for reply I also do gun reviews and maybe it's me but I found that most readers are interested in how a particular gun shoots, after all that's why you would or would not buy a particular gun.

I had a chance to see the

I had a chance to see the Edge at our local gun store. It looks like a good clean Rifle for $279.00 and if it shoots like the Savage Weather Warrior at $599.00 the Edge should be a gem at a fraction of the cost.

Savage with the introduction

Savage with the introduction of the Accu-trigger and now their new Accu-stock really have come a long ways for improving accuracy. But with the new improvements also comes a new price tag.  Now most of Savage's line seems to be price around a Remington SPS, Winchester Featherweight, and in some case close to a Sako A7.  So it was smart play by savage to develop a less expensive rifle for beginners.

I love Savage but would give

I love Savage but would give a slight edge (no pun intended) to the Stevens model 200 here... it is a Savage without an Accutrigger and is a proven performer.

I am going to say the jury may be out on the recoil lug designed in that manner...

in my honest opinion

It's an UGLY rifle that may, or may not shoot well.

Personally I cannot get by the ugly part.

Buy away for all I care!!  Yes

Personally, I wouldn't even carry one if you gave me $25/day!!  Hello

To Tndeerhunter. Man! You are

To Tndeerhunter. Man! You are offering up all kinds of useless advice. And you say I have a bad attitude. You need Help!

To everyone else. Buy what you like. A buddy at work is looking to buy one as we speak. He just can't find one locally.  In the end, do it because you can. This is the America. You can never have too many guns. Thumbs up

I have handled the Marlin XL7 and have to say I like it. I think it's amazing what they can make for $400 bucks. It's accuracy reviews are good also.  I think the Weatherby Vanguard would be a  good option since they reworked the triggers. Not as bad as they used to be. I have one in 300wsm and it shoots 3/4" groups with handloads and Federal 180 TSX factory loads. Older model so I replaced the trigger with a Timney. As I remember, the handloads were the cheaper route. I just like to know what factory ammo will shoot through a rifle. Took me about $300 bucks to find out. OUCH! Still doesn't shoot as good as my Browning A-bolt, but, not bad for the money.
