Me and my buddy hit the foothill country Saturday for some predator calling. First stand I glassed a coyote that looked like he was coming in from about 800 yards away. Thing is there was a ravine and then about 500 yards of thick stuff between us and him. We waited but didn't see anything come in. Third stand I was convering the Northern edge of two valleys that intersected and he was covering the southern side. He hit a hand held rabbit distress and then five minutes later i hit some jackrabbit distress. I was sitting there glassing the ridge above me and hear two shots ring out. After waiting a minute I take a peek to his side and up the ridge on his side I see a flash run about fifteen yards and I eyeball where it stops. We get up there and find blood and track him and a pistol shot puts him down for good. My buddy will have to sew a bit, but was happy with his first cat. 200 yard range with a Rem 223 with a 28 inch bull barrel.

I want a bobcat.
Yeah, I do to!!!
I lost one with a 17 HMR about two years ago (hate losing one and making an animal suffer) and corrected that caliber mistake, but haven't had an opportunity again. This is the same country I lost that one in and were going to be hitting it hard so got a month to try and get mine.
Two years ago while hunting coyotes I had one come within 10 feet of me. My buddy was calling and the cat came circling around. He eyed me wondering if I was prey, decided I wasn't and walked off.
Easy shot except for one thing. I didn't have a tag for a bobcat. Kicked myself for not having one.
Darn, that blows! It would be a real eye opener if one had an aerial view above you when calling. I think we'd freak out on all the critters that come in and we are never even aware of. Especially chilling if you knew of the Mt lion that creeped by at close range. My bud said that Bobcat was camouflaged so well and he only saw him because the sunlight kinda gleamed on his fur and then he could faintly make out the pointy ears.
That's awesome! I've never had one (that I know of ) come in while calling. Seen lots while bow hunting and snared my first this year. A really cool animal ![]()
I doubt that my friend would have know he was there either.
Usually, when we go out together he does the calling and I watch the down wind side.
I prayed that the bobcat didnt jump on me. I would have screamed like a girl if it did.
Very nice! Congrats to you and your friend. ![]()
Hey, thanks for the comments guys!
Hey, I got one Saturday 1/10/09 about a mile from my buds.
