I hope your hunting with video equipment, if not think about it. I have never seen one but I believe in them. I believe in them because of the ancient native american stories and stories from people I know that have been hunting in the Blue Mountains for more than 60 years and family of mine that logs the priest lake area of Idaho and Pond Oreille county. There are probbly more people that have seen them and would never admit it then those that claim to have seen it that didn't.

For those that have seen one, veiwing or replying to this topic I don't envy you at all. I do not whant to fear the forest and those that have seen them do to a degree.

I don't really fear the forest... I love being surrounded by Douglas Fir and Hemlock trees and the wildlife of the Pacific Northwest... in fact, it's the only place that I feel truly comfortable and relaxed.

I do at times fear the unknown... people do occasionally get killed by mountain lion or bears... I myself was followed down a logging road while on foot after dark (and without a flash light)... the only comfort that I had was the Remington .270 in my hands and even that wasn't a total comfort as I knew that I could get ambushed in the dark and wouldn't see it coming. It is rather unnerving to hear something walking behind you on a gravel road when you can't see your hand in front of your face, to stop walking and hear a pad or two fall on the gravel and then stop... only to come back later and find cougar tracks over your boot prints while crossing some soft earth.

I'm actually more afraid of bear and cougar (as I know that both at times have been know to kill and partially eat human)...

The fear of the bigfoot thing is more a healthy survival instinct and conscious knowledge that something that dwarfs a mature silver back gorilla could kill you in an instant without even trying and there would be nothing that you could do to stop it.

The only recorded cases of bigfoot hostility that I can recall are the story related about the trappers that President Teddy Roosevelt related in his book, where a fur trapper was found dead with two puncture marks on his throat and a broken neck (while his partner was out getting their furs so that they could leave the area after some unknown animal wrecking their campsite and harrassing them in the dark the night before)... and the case of the Mt. St. Helens miners who supposedly shot and killed a bigfoot and then had their cabin attacked by a group of bigfeet that night...

I watch a lot of specials on gorilla and their behavior on cable television... many apes will snap sapling trees in half, toss stones or branches or charge while screeching to warn someone off before they attack... I personally believe that the same will hold true for bigfoot... as I plan to spend lots of time in the forests and near wilderness rivers in search of a small family group...

It is my wish to prove that they exist to protect them and their habitat. Modern anglo-saxon decendents didn't believe in reports of gorillas when stories of hairy man-like ape creatures came back to Europe in the early 1900's until one was captured... I truly wouldn't want to see one shot, as what I witnessed near Mt. Rainier walked like a human (and was first mistaken for one)... the creature that I saw, reached up to push a tree bough from in front of its face before entering the forest... which shows me that it was very intelligent. I later found a tree branch, bent and snapped out of the way of the trail... at ten feet off the ground... as if something or someone was clearing a trail that it planned to use again.

Anyway... just my views.

Watershed Wizard, The Teddy story was that one of his from the ancient cedar grove in Pond Oreille co. I know that area farely well and does my family.

I also have had a incounter with a cougar, a vary large old gray faced CAT in the Charles Pack Forest back in 95. I had helped a man drag a mature Blacktial Buck in rut to his pickup. The thing stunk something rancid and so did I. I saw something following me and Wow. But when he seen me he shot away.

I am more afraid of coming between a cow moose and its calf. I had a close one there once also.

I have spent a lot of time in the woods, never came across anything I would say was "big foot". I think its amazing how some camp fire stories never seem to die.

I'm not so quick to disspell the big foot stories. There are a lot of seasoned hunters on different forms that state they have seen it. These are guys that know the difference between a bear and ape/whatever. Look at snow leopards. They were just a myth as well. Just figments of our imagination for centuries, just folk lore. Nobody believed in them either but now if you want to see one you just have to go to the zoo. Most zoos have specimens of them. Not bad for something that didn't exist 20 years ago. Thumbs up

As much as i hate to rehash this, it is an interesting development. They said that the dna tests were inconclusive, not really sure where this will head from here but it is entertaining none the less. Any ways heres the link

I saw this on another forum and it had a link the the BFRO site that researches for BF and they said it was proven to be a hoax and that the same "scientist" has tried to do it before as well. I'll look for the link.

Here it is: http://www.bfro.net/
