That might work for most primates, but I think you would do better in earthtones and maybe a blue or red backpack. Probably some "granola" gear and pachuly oil for scent. Seems to me that those types have all the luck in BF sightings.

In all reality, its not that I dont believe that they may exist, I havent seen anything to this point that they may exist. But, regardless of what wdfw says I would still shoot one if I saw one(trophy qaulity or not), and deal with the reprecusions later. So best of luck in your endevour.

Let us know where you are hunting for them - and we will stay clear.

Don't whack someone in a brown coat and hat hunched over his granola bar.

The sense I have from all the reading on the subject is that if you do run into one - you will feel under-gunned regardless of your weapon.

I guess it wouldn't be a great time to be in the woods sporting a new ghillie suit? Think

There is no mistaking a human for a Sasquatch, especially the "western red Sasquatch," much bigger !!!

one time i got a western red sasquatch while it was taking a dump near a sasquatch camp.it confused me with it's markings for a sec, they were like red and black bars criss crossing each other on it's back and head.anyway it was pretty small and i'm ashamed i mentioned it.it probably was only 6'2" and maybe 270lbs ,not very much meat either.i followed some tracks that were parallel to each other and continuous and at the end there he was, blam!meat in the fridge!

Re: Sasquatch

I'd like to reply regarding Bigfoot hunting in Washington State in the summer... if you are refering to hunting large game in Washington with a high powered rifle, you're likely to have your gun confiscated and arrested for "attempted poaching" as there is no summer season for carrying a high powered rifle in Washington... and there are quite a few poachers and so you are likely to have trouble convincing a Fish & Wildlife enforcement officer that you aren't poaching bear or elk.

In regards to actually seeing a bigfoot while actively searching... most scientists believe that they are nocturnal... if you are out hunting with a rifle after dark, I can guarantee that you've increased your chances of getting arrested for "poaching".

Now onto the "big fellow" and I do mean BIG... there are a few rare individuals who have had the privilidge to witness an actually sighting of a very tall, hairy biped crossing paved roads in forested areas... I've had that rare opportunity...

Now before I get flooded with emails from hunters grouping me with idiots, loonies or crazy folk (as I read some of your forum's previous comments)... I'd like to clarify a few points... I have two college degrees in the Sciences... I've been employed as a teacher for over 14 years... I've worked as a Habitat Restoration Biologist.... raised almost 2 million dollars to protect wild fish in the Pacific NW and yes... I have seen bigfoot.

I should go on to say, that I've never used illegal drugs and I don't drink... I've personally met many people who have actually seen the creature.... most were either Native American, biologists or people who spent an awful lot of time driving forested roads...

I used to summer near Mt. Rainier, but will not reveal my sighting location, because as a scientist, I'd love the opportunity to find where they summer and attempt to get close enough to get clear and undisputible photos and/or video footage.

As for past comments on the Patterson footage from 1967... who has proved that it is a fake? I'm sure that 99.999999% of the planet wasn't present during the filming and only those who were there actually know for sure...

As for those who take credit for "creating the bigfoot hoax" or "wearing the suit"... I don't buy it for a second... my reason? In 1987, I witness an enormous, hairy biped cross the highway leading to the west entrance of Mt. Rainier National Park (not going to tell you where)... as the "figure" crossed in front of my car at midnight, it reached up to brush a douglas fir bough from in front of its face as it entered the forest... I recall asking my wife, "Why would someone wear a fur coat in July?" And instantly slammed on my brakes, when I saw an ear on the side of its head... its appearance and location on the head looked identical to a mountain gorilla. The hair on my arms and legs stood on end, as I instantly realized that this person wasn't human and was extremely huge.

I came back the next day with a 12 foot sturgeon fishing rod to measure the distance from the tree bough to the ground... it was 10 feet! Which meant that what I saw was between 10 and 11 feet tall. I entered the trees and found scuff marks in the deep needle duff beneath the trees, but no complete or deep tracks as the ground was rock hard, being as it was July. I followed the scuffs for a quarter mile (they had a five foot span) and across a dry mud flat... .again, scuff marks about five feet apart... and down a deep slope (the creature left deep heel marks in the hill as it must have walked up right down the slope).

As the heel marks entered a very dark patch of forest (during 12 noon), I hesitated... I've hunted deer, elk and black bear in the past, but I lost my nerve and wouldn't have entered the dark woods even with a 7 mm magnum. The creature would have dwarfed a bull elk in height and girth... I've seen a live male gorilla in Tacoma at the B and I store (when he was still there) and Ivan (as he was named) was huge, but what I saw dwarfed even him... and Ivan could have broke your neck with ease.

If a person were dumb enough to squeeze the trigger on a bigfoot, they'd better make it a clean kill... one shot, one kill... as if you didn't and it saw you... your life would most likely be forfeit.

I may never convince others that bigfoot actually exists, but NO ONE will EVER convince ME that it doesn't. I know what I saw... it was over ten foot tall... not some dude claiming, "that was just me in a monkey suit"... by the way... monkey's have tails... but not great apes.

That was 21 years ago this upcoming summer... and I still take every opportunity to drive the state's forested highways late at night and visit my encounter location during daylight every few years.

I don't really care if people believe or not... just because a person hasn't seen one themselves, doesn't mean that the creatures don't actually exists. Those of us who have been blessed with the rare encounter simply shake our heads and smile at those who call others "idiots", as to us... they seem a little narrow-minded... there are millions of acres of forest in Washington State... why haven't loads of foresters and loggers reported sightings? Well... if you thought the spotted owl was bad for the timber industry, imagine what would happen if bigfoot WERE proven to actually exist.

I actually have a friend who tells me that there is no way that bigfoot exists... and then will go on to tell me about the time that he saw a UFO in his back yard while he was soaking naked in his hot tub.

Keep it real... enjoy your hunting.... keep safe.

The Watershed Wizard

PS... not all of Washington State has laws protecting bigfoot, but those counties that do will try you for murder, if you kill a bigfoot and scientists determine that it is classified as being closer to a human than an animal... a fact that you might want to keep in mind, before you decide to pull the trigger.

I didn't know where to put this. Exotics? Anything goes?

So my friend asked me to go bigfoot hunting this summer in western Washington. He is a firm believer and has a few specific spots he wants to check out. I'm not sure that they exist, but I know enough people who have heard and seen them that I'm at least open to tagging along.

There's a couple of questions though, I thought I'd ask the group.
Any thoughts about whether they exist?
Would it be wrong to shoot a sasquatch? They'd be endangered, but then it would probably be better for the species if their existence were proven.
Caliber?
Does anyone have any sasquatch stories? Or even better, any specific areas to look at (we'll be in the Olympics and St. Helens areas).
