good old sask. they have all these tags but only for sask res. I hunted around moose jae for ten years and shot a lot of nice deer but there's to many deer there and not enough hunters i think the sask gov should open the season up in the whole province for caanadian res. and allow our neighbours in the south to a draw system because the tourism it would produce would be amazing.

I was a little late going for one of those antlerless muledeer tags this year for zone 20. On the 19th when they updated the list on the website there were still 34 left and by the 22nd they were all sold. I think the fact that they only allow so many in zone 21 where most of the muleys are and try to keep them from expanding into 20 by offering lots of tags is working because last year I didn't see nearly as many in the slug zone as in the year before. The $38 archery mule deer licenses must be accounting for quite a few as well.
The idea behind only letting Americans hunt up north is obviously so they have to hire outfitters and to weed out the daytrippers so more money stays in the province. The waterfowl and upland hunters that do use the southern half are usually in for a few days or a week so they're spending money, but if you could just drive in, tag out and go home you wouldn't even have to buy a tank of gas in Saskatchewan. As for quality of the hunting, it's no secret that the parkland and forests up north can produce some awsome wide beamed deer. Does the govt. screw the tourists on high license fees? Of course they do! $60 for a non-res fishing license....... it's ridiculous and I'm sure we lose a lot of business because of it. It's time we adopted a reciprocal fee system like some states have so it gets a bit more fair. I know I'm a lot less likely to fish in B.C now because their non-res. fees have gone up, whereas Manitoba has always been more reasonable.

I personally don't have a problem paying higher licence fees since my provincial income tax goes to another province. I do strongly object to the highly restrictive Canadian resident rifle seasons in the parkland zones (the last week of the resident season only).

I've always considered myself a resident of Sask who just happened to be employed elsewhere. I even maintain my SK federal electoral voting riding. I know that most Atlantic provinces allow serving CF members who enlist from their province to hunt/fish as residents. I approached the Sask govt about doing the same for CF members originally from Sk and was politely told to pound sand...since I had "voluntarily chose to leave the province, I was no longer a resident and therefore not entitled to the same priviledges as those who chose to remain in the province" eye roll

That was my annual rant - I'll stop whining now until next year.
