I think everyone who owns a gun and wants to keep it should be an NRA member. They really do a good job protecting the 2nd amendment.

Amen to that CVC!!! Thats the best thing hunters and gun owners can do to help protect their rights. It aways amazes me when every once in a while someone at work will come up to my desk to tell me that they just bought a new gun and ask me for either advise, opinion, or just to chat about it. While talking guns with them, one of the first things I ask is if they are an NRA member. Common response is No! I tell them to join and why they should. Yet most are reluctant to. People like to buy and own guns, yet few are willing to pay $35 a year to insure that right. I hear that the NRA is offering lifetimes for $500 now.

You are right about the life membership for $500. I got an offer just recently, but I have year's membership left so I'll wait.

The NRA magazines are good too. I get the American Hunter and really look forward to receiving it so the membership cost is hardly anything when you figure in the magazine subscription.

Its unfortunate that we even need an organization like the NRA to help protect our 2nd amendment rights. But I'm glad they exist and do what they do. Years ago I thought they were too aggressive and heavy-handed, but I realize now that they have to be. If you don't assert yourself in a very aggressive manner, the antis will run right over the top of you and not look back.

And like CVC, I enjoy receiving the American Hunter magazine.

Anybody that values their right to own firearms should be a member of the NRA.

Cowgal, I thought the same way you did about the NRA being too agressive, but I changed my mind after the Governor of my state at the time worked to ban cheap Saturday night special handguns. He said he didn't want to ban any other gun, just this cheap weapon of choice for criminals. True sportsman don't use these cheap guns, just criminals.

Sounded reasonable, but as soon as the ink was dry he was trying to ban "assault" weapons saying that the criminals were using them and the police were outgunned.

Whoa, stop the presses, didn't he just say the cheap handgun was the weapon of choice for criminals? And now he is saying they use assault weapons. He lied from the beginning about his intentions.

And this is what changed my position. We cannot give an inch because the anti-gun faction will not stop until all guns are banned and we are left defenseless.

I have a hard time believing that the us, state, and local government law enforcement agencies are out gunned. That's a poor argument. An assualt rifle can make the situation dangerous, but no where near as dangerous as a bolt action in the hands of a professional. So once again it comes down to good thurough back ground checks, and agencies updating the system promptly and efficiently, and of course black market arms. It's very sad to see organizations and government target the constitution, and not the source.

Well, it looks like we can chalk one up for the good guys defeating the gun ban in San Francisco.

I agree with everyone here regarding the NRA. I've been a member for the last 24 years. Not only are they our last defense for protecting our 2nd ammendment rights, but they are also strong advocates of maintaining our hunting heritage.

Remember: We are the NRA. It's folks like us.

NRA memberships are my favorite gift to give (Christmas, birthdays, weddings, anniversary's.) It's also nice knowing that most of them keep up their memberships after the gift membership runs out.

I totally agree. If you are a gun owner, plan to be a gun owner, or just want our future generations to be able to take full advantage of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and other freedoms that a lot of people take for granted, PLEASE JOIN THE NRA!

In this country, we have the Freedom of Speech, Religion, Press, etc., due in part to the men and women who have the courage to don a uniform, strap on a weapon, and serve daily in the branches of our Armed Forces. The Freedoms that we enjoy are also protected by the law abiding, hard working, men and women, who "Keep and Bear Arms" and support our Second Amendment.

Please join the NRA, and by all means, please also take a look at http://www.frontsight.com. Become a member at Front Sight, take classes at their location(s), and partner with them to help preserve our Second Amendment. Request the free DVD that provides insight to not only their organization but the changes that the anti-gun population have been cramming down our throats.

"The only thing required for evil to triumph, is for good men (and women) to do nothing." Do not just sit idle and watch our (YOUR) "Right to Keep and Bear Arms" drift away. Take a stand. Make a decision. Draw a line in the sand. Preserve our rights and our democracy for future generations! Make history, not watch it.

I concur on the S.F. gun ban issue

"The only thing required for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing!"

It is time to STOP DEFENDING OUR GUN RIGHTS. YES, you read this correctly. STOP DEFENDING the rights that our Constitution has already given us. It is now time to stop defending and start taking an approach from the OFFENSIVE SIDE of the ball.

It is time to stop sitting around, waiting for the next liberal politician (who, by the way, DO HAVE concealed weapons permits) to take away the guns from our hands, homes, business. It is time to take the fight back to Washington. It is time to start going foward, not stepping back, rocking back on our heels, and trying to defend.

If someone comes into your home, you defend. If you know someone is planning to break in, you start taking offensive measures. That is the difference.

Keep spreading the word. Join the NRA, join Front Sight, write your local, state level, and federal level, elected officials. MAKE HISTORY, don't watch it!
