I have heard that there are some good areas in San Diego for pig and turkey hunting but I have never been out there that way for hunting. Does anyone know of any BLM land out that way??

Am I confused? Are you talking about the land within a few mile radius round the lake? I was by there this weekend just wanting to do some outdoor shooting and everywhere I stopped I saw posted signs saying how no hunting or carrying loaded fire arms was prohibited. Sounds like I AM confused. Any chance you could set me straight?

I know spring season is over but I'm already thinking about the fall.

thanks.

I was wondering if any members had any extra time to show me the rope's on turkey hunting. I'm not new to SD I have been stationed here for 8 yrs in the Navy.i like to think I'm your average outdoors man, I have shot deer here and in a few other states and I love to fish fresh/salt. I'm safe and respectful. Thanks

Early scouting is good, but those birds are in their winter flock. Come spring they will be scattered. So you better stay on top of their general location. Last week i was out fixing cattle fences and when i was down in the creek bottom, every thime i would pound a metal fence post in the ground the toms would gobble.

Yeah we seen quite a few big flocks it was weird they were either all hens and a few jakes or all gobblers and a few jakes. I also seen alot of rooting from hogs. all in all it was a good morning.

Listen to hoggetter. Those birds will be scattered when hunting season arrives. The property I hunt doesn't have a "resident" population of turkeys. There is usually one group of hens that hang around after mating season to raise their poults, but they are gone by late summer. Winter time finds the gobblers and hens across the swamp from us in big flocks. Usually around the end of March, the flocks disperse with some turkeys ranging over to our land. But it's always good to get and see some birds. Good luck and good hunting.

Yeah the guy from the NWTF I went with was telling that they'll break up. I learned alot from him. Now I'm working on calling and trying to get a decent set up. This spring will be my first attempt to hunt for these birds.

Now I'm debating on what broadheads to use. i would like to get my first bird with a bow.

I use slick trick 100gr magnums year round for turkey, deer, elk, wild pigs. Shot placement is probibly more important than broadhead type.
