Sako Info?

Just wondering if anyone knows how old this rifle I bought is. I went to the sako site and cannot find this model. On the Rifle is only Says Sako AV the V kinda looks like it is a roman 5 with lines on top and bottom. I looked under older models and found some that looked close. When looking at some info on there rifles it list actions with letters like IV V but it also says that a 270 only would be a IV and mine has an AV which I could find no where. Not that it really matters but when all this info out there somewhere I just like knowing some stuff if possible.

I'm no expert but I have heard that the AV designates it as a "long action" which would be consistant with the .270. It supposedly was the action that followed the L61R.

Sako Info?

I just purchased an AV myself. I'm hardly an expert, but I think I can help with these questions.

The "A" Series of Sakos were produced in the 1980s. Their Roman numeral designations are analogous, but not identical to, those for the Model 75s that succeeded the "A"s. The .270 may have jumped ship when the models changed.

There isn't a real wealth of information about Sakos out there. I was a bit surprised, as they seem to have a very loyal following. There is a Sako group on MSN:

http://groups.msn.com/SakoCollectorsClub

that is reasonably active, and has some seemingly knowledgeable folks.

That's about all I've unearthed so far...

Thanks for the answers. It does seem strange that there is not a lot more info out there, about history and such. Oh well this is still a nice gun to look at. Have not been out shooting it yet. When I have time, we have 300 mph winds.

Sako Info?

I just bought a used Sako A II . The AII, as I understand is for Action 2. It is a .308. I e-mailed Sako from thier website, gave them the serial number, and asked the year of manufacture. They replied within 2 days. It was made in 89. The roman numeral is for the size of the action. If you look on thier website you will see the different sizes for the different calibers. The A2 is not in the present hunter lineup. Any help.

Oh yea. Actually the "A" series was made from 85 to 97. I believe.
