Rut is in full swing here now

Hey Folks,

The processors are covered up in big bucks and reports are coming in from friends with a good frequency now... some great 8 and 10 pointers being taken.

We do have a long and protracted run down here in SC... but a week either side of Halloween is golden.

I missed on any decent bucks this year, I passed on a 17" eight point early in the season (guessed at 105") and never saw another decent buck.

What are you guys seeing and taking - let's see some pics!

Good to hear Jim.  Any word

Good to hear Jim.  Any word on how it's going in Illinois?  Are you gonna be in on the rut out there, or miss it?

Man, I hope so!!!! My buddy

Man, I hope so!!!!

My buddy in Peoria states emphatically that 5 - 15 NOV are the golden dates up there.

Ok, let's assess my deal... - will be bow hunting 6 - 13 NOV and shotgun hunting 19 - 21 NOV - so I am hoping to catch some good action!

I will do some "Live from the Tree" updates and see how well they are received.

Thanks!

Hey it is good to hear that

Hey it is good to hear that things are really starting to pick up. I have never hunted whit tailed deer but from everything you read in the hunting magazines, see in the hunting shows and hear from guys that hunt these creatures on a regular basis.... the rut is key. So if it is full swing, then I take that it is a good thing haha. Well good luck to all of you that are getting to chase them.

Jim- I really like the idea of the live updates. It was pretty neat that Goosehunterjr was getting to it on his elk hunt so let's see if you can keep us posted while hunting those white tails. Good luck out there.

Last week was pretty good here in Eastern NC.  Had two friends take some pretty decent deer.

Those are both good bucks.

Those are both good bucks. The one looks like he needs help getting out of the cooler, though...like he had too much to drink...funny pic.

ECU You have any luck yet

ECU You have any luck yet this season.  I have seen a few small bucks and plenty of doe but nothing worth pulling the trigger on.  Starting Dec 1 I'm going to start taking doe and put some meat in the fridge.

i thought the rut was

i thought the rut was starting here, but now I haven't seen any activity.  I saw just one deer today and it should have been a perfect day to see them moving.  getting cooler and perfect for deer movement.

Not even season yet

Gun Season doesn't start until Nov 25th. Rut generally starts end of Jan in most places but it seems to get later and later each year. There wasn't a noticable Rut here 2 years ago but I saw plenty of yearlings last year so the did it sometime.

I didn't Bow hunt this year but a few friends have taken some nice Bucks early on. It has been really hot and dry here as of late so most movement happens at night.

Trail cams showing really nice bucks but Bears have also started showing up as well. Same problem as last year and I don't have a clue why they are visiting my plots.

Is there a season during the

Is there a season during the rut?  If so, which weapon?  It is interesting to learn about states that have ruts in January compared to November here in KS.  I guess the bears are hungry and your food plots can't be resisted?
