Ruger .44 Mag Carbine

I am thinking about buying a Ruger semi-auto .44Mag. carbine. The old tube feed style. It seems to me that there may have been problems with the Ruger carbine but I don't remember which model. Possibly misfeeds or stovepipes? Does anyone know about this? Much obliged.

Ruger stoped making the 10-44 back in the 80's. The action was (kind of)based on the M1 carbine. Some loved them others hated them? In the early 90's you could pick them used up at gunshows for about $200. They bring a much higher price now. Personaly I am not a big fan of the tube magizine. I picked a bunch up at shows but the tube feed always made me put them back down.
Then in the mid to late 90s Ruger introduced the "Deerfield Carbine". This was the 44 carbine redesigned and using a rotery clip magizine. I bought one the first year they were out. It is a great gun, I love it to death. I have heard that they have had mechanacal issues as well. Both my dad and me bought them and neither of us have ever had a proub. I see that Ruger discontinued them last year????
The gun you are looking at, can you shoot it before you buy? If it works well and the price is right buy it. It is a great whitetail and black bear gun in the NE. where shots are seldom 100 yds or more. The guns are fast handling and virtuly no recoil. Nice little gun to carry around the woods.

Any luck? You might want to put an add in the "wanted" thread, just a thought?

Nothing yet. I have developed a strange pattern of buying or at least wanting to buy firearms that have recently gone out of production.

You can probably find a deerfield relatively easy, since it just went out of production. The tube fed variety is going to be tough to find, especially in good condition.
