.50 cal 240 gr sabot. I took up M/L hunting solely to get around the non-res deer season restrictions in back home.

Glad i checked this site, for a while i thought i was the only one who shot round balls, they just hold better groups for me, and plenty of knock down.

I have guns with 1:66,1:48 and 1:32 twists I shoot both roundballs and conicals.I just love to shoot blackpowder

I use all three roundballs, bullets, and sabots. I really like shooting roundballs best. I cast .490" and .375" balls. I also cast a 320 grain REAL bullet. If I know the shot might be 100 yards or so I'll use a green sabot with a 255 grain .44 caliber bullet that I cast.

I use .530 pure lead rb self cast .020 ticking cut at the muzzel with 4 to 1 water balistol mix for patch lube. I soke the patch strip till saturated and then let dry over night on melemine or something that repels water. this combo will clover leaf at 50 yards and stay within4 inches at 100. Fisher king

I also have a T/C Hawkens in .50 and a spanish in .45 all round ball shooters

I shoot sabot's out of my 50 Cal T/C Black Diamond, buddy of mine suggested them when I got my Muzzle loader a couple years ago and have used them ever since.

I use for my .54 a .53 rball witha balistol water patch 1to 4 balistol to water .the patch thickness is .20 will cloverleaf at 50 and within 4 inches at 100.

I just recieved my new order of round balls and patches the other day. I ordered the Hornady round balls .490.

bassrat, I got rid of my inline and have a pack of T/C sabots (I think 240 grain) that I never shot off. If we get together for a hunt you can have them. My side lock will only see round balls.

I also use RB's in all of my ML. I have a .50 Traditions Deerhunter, .54 Lyman GPR and a .54 Lyman Traderifle flinter, further more a Pedersoli 12ga. double barrel.

PRB works very well in all of these guns.

How is that Great Plains working out for you? I was thinking of getting a Lyman rifle at some point.
