Well said, Captain:

I too recommend 30 caliber and above for moose, but bullet construction and weight is more important, and shot placement tops the list.

Captain O has done it again. He has once again blesed us with his presence and his knowledge of the outdoors.I agree with captain o. 30-06 should be the minimum. Captain O when can I tag along on one of your Arkansas hunts? Im from Ark too.

I just purchased a single shot in 30-06. Well I hunted with it this past season but I didnt get anything. I took her to the range this weekend and got her shooting 1 1/2 gruops at 100yds and dead on at 200yds. I am well pleased and cant wait till the upcoming season. One day I plan on hunting moose and best believe the 06 is going.

Seems a bit strange, reading all the information on the ideal moose caliber. I remember as a youngster in my dad's moose camp, the main firearm of choice was the old 30-30 and the longest shot might have been 100 yards. The times they are a changing........................... Think

Blessed? That is a first! If I get down there this upcoming season, it is a possibility. There's a chance I may be going to Nebraska for late-season doe.

1-1/2 inch groups is excellent for a big game rifle. Zeroed in at 200 yards, you can keep that bullet close to the sightline at all reasonable hunting ranges.

I would swear that in the original post. He was asking for recommendations of a caliber larger than 30-06. I would interpret that as more energy, from 7 rem mag on up.

i have taken many moose with my 7mm rem mag but prefer the action of a .300 win mag with 180 accubond partitions. 1 shot 1 kill almost anything

use a lighter bullet

try a ferderal trophy bonded bear claw 165 gr it should work great if you want to get a new rifle for moose hunting and have the money and are recoil tolerant enough you should use a .340 weatherby mag i have hunted for two years and got a cow tag and got my moose with a tikka.30/06 with remington safari a frames the shot was stepped off at 150-170 yards
