rifle opinion need

Hey guys. I have an offer on the tabll for a trade that would have me getting a Remington 700 SPS varmit in .233. I am not real familiar with this rifle (although I am familiar with the 223) and would love some more info. Do any of you have any personal experience with this weapon and what is your honest take on it. I currently don't have a 223 in my stable and would not mind adding one at all. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

That's a pretty decent gun.

That's a pretty decent gun.  What would you be giving up in a trade?

trading

Hey I like the idea of gun trades    Last one I made was a Rem M1100 I had for a Marlin .444S he had. Great for both of us. The Rem 700 is a fine rifle (outside of a few headlines garnered lately) and if you like the rifle then I'd say go for it. Is there a pssibility that you might shoot it first, before officially trading? The .223 is not known to be a barrel burner, but it couldn't hurt to throw a couple of groups downrange with it first. Just a thought....

Good luck!!

i'd love to take it for a

i'd love to take it for a test drive. I just don't have much time with the twins and all. i did talk to him a little more. he is the original owner and it has about 100 rnd through it. I think I am going to take the deal. I do like the Mossy and it's a very nice shooter. I just don't have the need for it now. my 11-87 will do just fine. thanks for all the input gang.

was also curious about ammo

was also curious about ammo selection. have you guys have better luck with some ammo versus another? All I've had experience with was my M-16 during my service days and the range ammo we used to qualify with. Thanks in advance.

ammo

I'm not a .223 expert and only own one rifle so chambered, a CZ 527 American. When I ordered this rifle I decided to purchase some bulk ammo to utilize during sight-in and for varmint hunting, if sight-in went well. I bought this 55gr SP load from Wisconsin Cartridge Co. after talking to one of the techs there and being told it would likely be more accurate than the similar priced 55gr FMJ load. Well, it's still the only load I use in that rifle as it gives me .5" 3 shot groups and I'm satisfied with that performance in that rifle (sporter weight barrel)  It's $36/100 rounds.

no trade in my opinion

I have a lot more use for a waterfowling 12 gauge than for a 223 in any flavor, so unless you are looking to get rid of the shotgun I would personally pass on this trade.  There is nothing wrong with teh Remington 700 per se, but the cartridge is not one that I would use on anything but varmints, and if you want to do that then a 270, 30-06, 05 308 would work just fine too.  Just my personal opinion but I wouldn't swap a shotgun for a 223.

But do what makes YOU happy!  THAT's what really matters!
