Rifle opener in WA

There are some nice 2-pt mule deer in E WA. It makes the 3 point rule rather Cry One year there was a 2 point hanging with some four points and his rack was bigger than theirs. Another year there was a 2 point that looked like a dang elk. Congrats!!! I look forward to the pics. I am pretty familiar with a lot of that `canyon' country also.

It seems that if you let all the mule deer with the geneitic propensity for two point racks with no eye guards live, and breed, that you will get more, and more, and more genetic two pointers lacking eyeguards...?

We have a few bruiser two pointers which live in the area we hunt each year, absolutely massive muleys, been around a long time, and huge racks of two points each side, smooth with no eyeguard....

I may have to saw off a couple of eye guards off of antlers here at home and glue them on..... he he he...!

2 points

I agree that in eastern washington, around the pullman/colfax area there are a lot of really big two points with no eye guards. My friends on opening day saw 8 two points, no eyeguards. There is something messed up either nutritionally or genetically, or both related. In central washington where i am from, i hardly ever see 2 points, let alone large two points. The only bucks i see are either spikes or 3-4 points. It seems like certian areas of the state are holding a greater proportion of 2 points than others. I feel that a lot of it has to do with the number of hunters in the area who are successful at harvesting the legal deer. 2 points without eyeguards are not always going to be two points, they will eventually be a 3 point, unless there is a major genetic flaw or lack of nutrition.

IMO someone in the WA game dept could come up with a scheme for some of those nice 2-points to be legally harvested ... if they harvested a large number - then perhaps the gene pool could move back the other direction. But as the way it is - the situation will only get worse(?).

It has been a while but i just got back from elk camp.... and got photo on the computer but it is 17 inchwide outside to outside... mule deer 2pt with eyeguards.... my 3 rd deer......taken near goldendale washigton..... it was a great hunt got on him bedded down once he was up and steped out i hit hiss front left leg just below shoulder shattered uphil shot into lower vitals......he then made a hobbaling 3 legged run up the hill, he was going to die but i did not want him to get to the top or over so i put one as he quartered away uphll through vitals out the neck about 150 maybe 175 and then the work started....he had a ton of fat on him....well......i still am unpacking and from elk camp.... not successful yet... one relative got a 3 X 4 opening morning......we pushed a 6X7 into a clearcut where 2 guys happened to have just pulled up to look and they blasted him at 250 and got him shot 8 times......lol hit him like 3...... couple other nice bulls in other trucks...well goodluck too all and have fun. Thumbs up
