FYI, I saw an ad in the American Rifleman recalling Remington Versa Max shotguns for a defective hammer. If you have one it might be worth following up on it.

I happened to see they announced the recall on the last few pages of American Rifleman, only to see an full page color ad advertising for us to buy the same shotgun in the front few pages of the same magazine.

They need to sell more of the upgraded ones to make up for the recall on the old ones. On a side note I've not been as impressed with Remington's quality control the last few years and I was a die hard follower.
Not saying I won't buy another Remington but I look around a lot more at the others.

Personally I'm done with Remington, at least their newer stuff. I love and use the Remington shotguns and rifles I currently own, some older stuff and stuff I bought new about 15 years ago. The new stuff I've seen coming out of Ilion is just sad. The newest gun I bought was an 870 Express about 4 years ago, brand new. Had to be sent into a warranty repair center who made it work right. Why couldn't Remington get it working right before it left the factory?? Seems to be a common these today - there's always plenty of time to fix defects, but never enough time to get the work done right the first time.
About the only Remington firearm I'd buy new today would be their Spartan line - Russian made. It the old Baikal line that EAA used to distribute here. Baikal makes some darn good quality, reliable, and rugged guns at a very reasonable price.
