Recommendations CO Elk Outfitters

I have 12 PP for CO and this is the year!  I am a NR looking for a guided hunt where I have a good chance of taking a mature 6X6 for a trophy. Prefer a ML hunt or 1st rifle.  Any recommendations for me?  If you had 12 PP what areas would you look at and who would you go with?  Honest recommendations appreciated.

With 12 non resident PP you

With 12 non resident PP you are right in the middle of no mans land for the better units.  As far as which ones that you can draw with that many points they are units 40, and 66 for the muzzle loader hunts along with a lot of other units that require a lot fewer points.  Then for the rifle season they are units 76 for 1st and second and 3rd rifle, along with a lot of other units that require a lot less than 12 points.

I would suggest for you to go the the Colorado Parks and Wildlife statistics page and check out the units that you might be interested in.  Then go to the Colorado Outfitters Association site and check out the outfitters.

Just remember that there is a lot of good hunting here in Colorado and there are some nice elk but if you see where a outfitter starts to garantee you a trophy 6pt it is time to find another outfitter.

Gotta burn my points.

Critter,  Thanks for the info.  I've actually done exactly what you suggested.  I've been chasing the PP for 12 years and the best units keep staying a couple points ahead of me.  I will be 59 this year and I've decided not to wait for the best units any longer.  You never seem to get enought points.  At this rate I'll be 80 before I can draw.  I want to do a pack-in wilderness hunt - fully outfitted with a guide just once in my life while I still can.  I know I'll be wasting a bunch of points if I go with an area that requires less but I don't really care at this point because I'm probably not going to do this again anyhow.  Can't afford the cost of this type hunt on a regular basis.  I'm talking to some outfitters and getting info and references but just thought I'd ask on here to see what other possibilities there might be.  I've hunted elk with a bow on my own for about the last 16 years but I've never gotten a shot at a trophy bull.  Been close many times but something always goes wrong.  I'd like to get a nice bull and figure this is my best chance to do it.  Open to suggestions.

Don't worry I am in the same

Don't worry I am in the same boat that you are.  I am the same age that you are but I do have a few more points and I am a resident of Colorado.  I figured that I got my trophy hunt out of the way 11 years ago in Utah and killed a 343 7x6 and figure that I'll cash in my 17 Colorado elk points in 2013.

Now this isn't a endorsment for this outfitter but you might want to check out Biggerstaff Guides and Outfitters.  I noticed when I was looking at them that they offer a muzzle loader hunt in unit 40 where you should have enough points to draw a tag.
